CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 380 CIVIC DRIVE GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2022, 6:30PM Mission Statement - Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens. - Stimulate community service in Galt - Encourage family participation in building civic unity. - Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community. - Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth - Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families. A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER 6:33PM ORDER/FLAG SALUTE B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners: Akers, Brixey, Bulahan, Caron, Murillo Cuevas, Cullers, Gold, Kaur, Jones, Lallian Mentors: Harris, Hill J, Lampson. Council Mayor Farmer Absent: Commissioner Caron C. PUBLIC COMMENT - Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may address the commission on any item of interest to the public. Speakers may address commission on any agenda item during consideration of the item. Please come to the podium and limit your comments to three (3) minutes. Bob Billet presented ideas for the Galt Youth Commission and the Commission on Aging to collaborate more in events and in the community, as well in acts of kindness week. D. PRESENTATIONS: None E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Information Item Mentor Harris asked commissioners what their favorite holiday dish was. 2. Minutes from October 3, 2022 Action Item Motion Akers, second Gold. Approved 10-0. 3. Partnering with Commission on Aging Action Item Mayor Farmer and Aging Chair Bob Balliet presented ideas on how to connect the youth and the elderly in Galt. Invited Commissioners to come to bingo days. Discussed finding a place to meet with seniors after school to offer electronic assistance. Motion to collaborate with the commission on aging in their sock and blanket drive Motion Jones, second Caron. Approved 10-0. 4. Halloween Movie Night Information Item Commissioner Bulahan stated they set up an easy-up and handed out candy to children in Galt, although there was a low Commissioner participation, the event overall was a success. 5. Adopt a Street clean-ups Action Item Motion to partner with the beautification committee for the whole year in all their street clean-ups. Motion Murillo Cuevas, second Akers. Approved 10-0 6. Planning projects for the year _ Action Item Activities for the year were reported on, discussed, and finalized. Motion to approve up to $100 for lightning of the night, up to $500 budget for escape room, up to $600 budget for zip lining. Motion Caron, second Cullers. Approved 10-0. ● Animal service-Akers/Kaur - Presented the idea to volunteer at the Animal Friends Connections Humane Society and place a box in Galt to collect animal supplies. Bonnie Rodrigues volunteered the Galt Herald location as a collection site. ● Partner with Gilly’s Car Wash-Jones - Emailed and turned down. ● Lighting of the Night - Dec. 3 at 6:30pm. Agreement to collaborate with Galt Herald to hand out coloring books and candy canes. Motion for a $100 budget for Lightning of the Night materials. ● Random Acts of Kindness - Week in February. Subcommittee led by Gold with Murillo Cuevas, Cullers, and Akers. ● Paint SMUD boxes. ARPA funds. -Farmer - No information yet provided. ● Escape room. - Commissioner Kaur presented cost $40 a person. Motion made to spend up to $500 on team bonding activity for the year. ● Zip lining. - Commissioner Gold shared information on rock climbing / zip lining places costing $34 a person. Motion for $600 to spend on zip lining team bonding activity. ● Education projects. 7. Youth Commission Wear Action Item Mentor Lampson presented logo clothing options; $20 for each polo, $10 for each t-shirt, $40 for each hoodie. Motion for a budget up to $1,200 for Youth Commission Wear. Motioned Murillo Cuevas, second Gold. Approved 10-0. 8. City Council Update Information Item Mayor Farmer presented information and updates on Measure Q parks and recs funding, election updates, GPDCA union contracts with non-union members, the approval of ARPA funding and left over $500,000, as well as information on the Organics Program. As well as information on the Galt Youth Baseball dilemma, city funds and interest rates, the housing market recession; with the price of 50% of houses in Galt coming down and the effects on infrastructure being built in Galt. 9.
