A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Carolina Cuevas Murillo, Chair, called meeting to order at
6:00 P.M.
B. ROLL CALL:
Adult Mentors Present: Cross, Gordon, Klotz, Lampson, Collier
Mentors Absent: None
Youth Members Present: Akers, Cuevas Murillo, Hemenover (Arrived at 6:03 p.m.), Kunze,
Mejia, Neuburger, Rivas, Robles, Stalians
Members Absent: Martin
C. PUBLIC COMMENT: City Council Member Lampson introduced Harvinder Singh-Uppal
as the new adult mentor for the Galt Youth Commission.
D. PRESENTATIONS:
E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Lessons of Leadership
Adult mentor Klotz provided the commissioners with a new elevator speech challenge based
on the 2020 Census.
2. U.S. Census Project
Jose Montano, U.S. Census Bureau, overviewed the upcoming 2020 census. He discussed the
importance of being counted and mentioned that each person brings in around $2000 to their
community. Also, he stated that everyone’s information is safe and protected by the
government. He provided resources to help commissioners develop their local outreach
messages.
Taylor Buck, PRO Youth and Families, summarized the joint meeting with McCaffrey
Middle School students and the Galt Youth Commission. Her presentation included
obtaining feedback on developing a logo for the census outreach. Four subcommittees were
developed to research and present recommendations at the next meeting as it relates to the
artwork, merchandising, event planning and outreach.
Galt City Council Representation was not present to share the City’s census outreach plans.
Galt Youth Commission recessed at 7:45pm
City Council Member Lampson left at 7:50pm

3. Approval of Minutes for the Meeting of November 4, 2019
The minutes for the month of November were approved.

4. Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer chair Kunze presented an overview of the Galt Youth Commission’s funds and the
total balance was $5,968.58.
5. City Council Update
Report tabled during to lack of representation.
6. Senior Technology Project
Commissioner Rivas presented in place of Martin and shared that March 18, April 1, April
15 and April 29, 2020 as dates for this project.
7. Adopting a Street Project
Commissioner Cuevas Murillo provided that Lincoln Way will be cleaned on January 18,
2019 at 3 p.m. She also mentioned a budget of $30 was needed for the sign which would be
donated.
8. Art Exhibit Project/Earth Day Event
After much discussion, the commission decided to no longer pursue this idea. It was
recommended that the commission revisit the idea in the Spring with the hope to plan it for
next school year.
9. Holiday Activity Reminders
Commissioners signed up to help out at the Lighting of the Night event on the weekend.
Adult mentor Klotz had the commissioners sign up for the Rotary Dinner.
10. Storage Shelf
Adult Mentor Klotz requested $200 to purchase 2 storage shelves and bins for the storage
closet.

12. Around the Horn/Give Your Gratitude
Liberty Ranch High School teacher Jayme Hungerford, who attended the meeting, spoke
about her experience as it relates to the census and expressed interest in helping. Mentor
Collier thanked everyone for attending their strengths session. Commissioner Neuburger
announced the date for the holiday team bonding will be December 21, 2019 and there would
be a white elephant gift exchange. Robles congratulated Carolina on doing so well with her
poem during a Hamilton performance in San Francisco.
ADJOURNMENT: Chair Cuevas Murillo adjourned the meeting at 8:21pm.
