A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Carolina Murillo Cuevas, Chair, called meeting to order at
6:03 P.M.
B. ROLL CALL: Adult Mentors Present: Collier, Cross, Gordon, Klotz, Lampson, Singh-
Uppal
Youth Members Present: Akers, Hemenover, Kunze, Martin, Mejia (arrived at 6:08pm),
Murillo Cuevas, Neuburger, Rivas, Robles, Stalians
C. PUBLIC COMMENT: None
D. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Exploration with Gallup Strengths
Adult Mentor Collier had each commissioner and mentor choose a picture that represented
their strengths. Each mentor and commissioner shared each of their strengths related to the
picture.
2. U.S. Census Project
MERCHANDISE: Adult Mentor Klotz made packets of merchandise that could be made for
the census promoting project of 2020. She proposed a time to meet to finalize merchandise
expenditures on February 11th at 5:30pm. Commissioners Mejia, Neuburger and Murillo
Cuevas volunteered to attend.
EVENT PLANNING: Mentor Collier explained that Two signs and many flyers were
purchased that could be handed out at events. More events need to be planned for the
commission to participate in.
OUTREACH: Mentor Collier and her team submitted eight social media posts. The photos
will be posted on Facebook. Census information was put in the Liberty Ranch parent
newsletter.
6:30pm – Adult Mentor Collier leaves.
3. Approval of minutes for the meeting of January 6, 2020
The minutes for the month of January were approved by the commission.

4. Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer Kunze overviewed the funds and the total available amount is $5,868.56.
5. City Council Update
Councilmember Lampson told the commission the city that a new electronic billboard was
erected near Burger King. It will generate between $50,000-$100,000 a year and be dedicated
for parks and recreations. Additionally, the recent randomware threat cost the city $700,000
to clean up the computers from the viruses. The city anticipates that their insurance witll
cover most of the cost.
Councilmember Lampson request to move item #12 to the next item. The commission
consented.
6. Breathe California
The point counter point discussion was tabled. Councilmember Lampson offered an
alternative method to address the issue. She will be coordinating dates for Breathe California
to meet the commissioners at their respective schools.
7. Winter Bird Festival Reflection
Adult Mentor Cross reported that this fundraising event made $215. She expended $106.39
on food and supplies. So, the youth commission made a profit of $108.61. Commissioners
shared provided suggestions for improving next year like considering lunch type items like
sandwiches, cold drinks, ice tea and soft drinks. One item they would like to have is a better
coffee machine.
8. Adopting a Street Project
Commissioner Murillo Cuevas and those who attended the event shared that they had fun and
felt proud afterwards. A new date was made for the next clean up on April 5 at 1 p.m.
9. Galt Youth Commission Scholarship
Commissioner Kunze had a meeting discussing the scholarship and concluded of splitting
$1,000 into four $250 scholarships with directing at least one to each high school in Galt,
provided there is an applicant and the remaining one would be given to the highest scoring
application. A motion was made to provide four $250 scholarships.

10. Galt Youth Commission Recruitment
Adult Mentor Gordon overviewed the process of selecting new commissioners for next year.
The application period would open in March and interviews during April. Interested
commissioners wanting to participate on the interview panel would be required to attend
three meetings. Commissioners Akers, Hemenover, Kunze, Martin, Mejia, Neuburger and
Robles expressed interest in serving on the panel.
11. Eggstravaganza Breakfast Update
Commissioners Rivas and Martin shared that they presented to the Galt Lions Club and will
be presenting at the Rotary Club to ask for help with the breakfast event.
12. Earth Day Engagement
Commissioner Neuburger expressed interest in wanting to support the Earth Day event. She
will present an idea and budget at the next meeting.

All who attended the Winter Bird Festival were thanked for their efforts. Commissioner Robles was
complimented on doing a good job with planning the booth and fundraising sales with the Winter
Bird Festival.

Councilmember Lampson will present this month’s city council update.
6. Winter Bird Festival Reflection Informational Item
The commission will reflect on this event.

Commissioner Cuevas Murillo will report out on the January clean up event.

Commissioner Kunze will propose scholarship amounts for the upcoming 2020 scholarship.

Adult Mentor Gordon will overview recruitment process and timelines.

commission will decide whether to support the event.

Commissioners Kunze and Neuburger will do a point counter point discussion regarding the impacts
of an ordinance for smoke free apartments/duplexes. The commission will decide whether to support
a citywide measure.
