CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION Special Meeting Minutes, August 3, 2020 Meeting via Zoom 380 CIVIC DRIVE GALT, CALIFORNIA A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Adult Mentor Gordon, called meeting to order at 6:01 P.M. B. ROLL CALL: Adult Mentors Present: Gordon, Klotz, Lampson Mentors Absent: None Youth Members Present: Akers, Cuevas Murillo, Gold, Hemenover, Kunze, Neuburger, Rivas, Romero, Sosa Members Absent: Mejia C. PUBLIC COMMENT: None D. PRESENTATIONS: Tina Hubert’s presentation was tabled for next month’s meeting. E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Adult mentor Klotz provided the commission with an icebreaker that would assist them with their problem-solving skills. They had to ask questions to figure out what item was in the box. 2. Officer Elections The 2020 Galt Youth Commission conducted an election and the following commissioners were selected to serve as officers: Chair, Ashley Rivas; Vice Chair, Gabe Kunze; Secretary, Genevieve Akers; Treasurer, Alexa Cuevas Murillo; Publicity, Riley Hemenover; and Fundraising, Anna Romero. 3. Approval of minutes for the meeting of July 13, 2020 The minutes for the July meeting of 2020 were approved. Motion: Hemenover Second: Neuburger Ayes: 9 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0 4. Treasurer’s Report Adult mentor Gordon shared that the commission has $2,874.68 available in their account. 5. Community Projects for 2020 – 2021 There were multiple ideas expressed by the commission and the following potential projects were discussed: Care Packages Commissioner Sosa offered a project that would provide “care” packages consisting of essentials like deodorant, shampoo, body wash to those in need. This is a similar idea to what Sosa did last year at her school. Youth/Middle/High School Commissioner Kunze shared an idea that would develop activities for groups of students (i.e. seniors, middle school students) in response to COVID-19 which cancelled many in- person gatherings and traditions. Adopting a Street Commissioner Cuevas Murillo offered to continue the commitment of periodically cleaning up Lincoln Way near Galt High School. Senior Pen pals Commissioner Gold expressed interest in further developing an idea to reach out to seniors who might be lonely during the pandemic through letter writing. Random Acts of Kindness Commissioners Kunze and Neuburger expressed interest in resurrecting a group project previously done in 2019. The project would recognize unsuspecting groups (i.e. school secretaries, teachers) of people for their work in the community. Drive in Movies at the Flea Market Grounds Adult Mentor Klotz and Council Member Lampson discussed an idea to create a drive-in movie event at the fairgrounds. After hearing ideas, Adult Mentor Gordon recommended the commission develop subcommittees and further explore these ideas. 6. Galt Herald Article Commissioner Neuburger shared this month’s article with the commission. The article titled “Little Farmhouse works to stay open during COVID-19” shared the struggles of a local business, an indoor play areas for kids, trying to stay open during the pandemic. 7. City Council Update Council member Lampson informed the commission on various things including City Council taking action on the outdoor eating ordinance by waiving the $250 permit fee required for restaurants when offering outdoor eating, approving the City’s financial report, and sharing that the number of COVID-19 cases since March is 396. 8. September Galt Youth Commission Meeting A motion to move the September meeting from the 7th to the 14th. Motion: Akers Second: Cuevas Murillo Ayes: 9 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0 9. Future Agenda Items None 10. Around the Horn/ Give Your Gratitude Commissioner Hemenover complimented on the great speeches by the candidates during the officer elections, adult mentor Klotz thanked everyone for coming to the zoom team bonding, and Commissioners Rivas and Cuevas Murillo congratulated everyone who was elected to an officer position. CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) ADVISORY To protect our constituents, City officials and City staff, the City requests all members of the public to follow the California Department of Health Services’ guidance and the County of Sacramento Public Health Officer Order for the Control of COVID-19 restricting group events and gatherings and maintaining social distancing. Additional information regarding COVID-19 is available on the City’s website at www.ci.galt.ca.us. Consistent with Executive Order N-29-20, the meeting will be held via teleconference/electronically and the City Council will participate via teleconference/electronically. In-person participation by the public will not be permitted and no physical location from which the public may observe the meeting will be available.
