CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION Special Meeting Minutes, September 14, 2020 Meeting via Zoom 380 CIVIC DRIVE GALT, CALIFORNIA A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Rivas called meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. B. ROLL CALL: Adult Mentors Present: Gordon, Klotz, Lampson Mentors Absent: None Youth Members Present: Akers, Gold, Hemenover, Kunze, Mejia, Murillo Cuevas, Neuburger, Rivas, Romero, Sosa Members Absent: None C. PUBLIC COMMENT: None D. PRESENTATIONS: Tina Hubert, Galt City Clerk The Galt City Clerk introduced herself to the commission. The City Clerk’s Office provides support to the youth commission. Lorenzo Hines Jr., Galt City Manager The new Galt City Manager introduced himself to the commission and asked them to think of some things they would like to see in Galt and share them with him the next time the commission sees the City Manager. E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Adult Mentor Klotz provided the commission with an icebreaker that questioned them about distance learning. The questions were as follows: What have you learned with distance learning? What was something funny that happened? 2. Approval of Minutes for the Meeting of August 3, 2020 The minutes for last month’s meeting were approved. Motion: Murillo Cuevas Second: Hemenover Ayes: 10 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0 3. Treasurer’s Report Treasurer Murillo Cuevas reviewed the funds of the GYC account which was $2,874.68. 4. City Council Update Councilmember Lampson presented the commission with a brief update. She told the commission Galt has a new city manager which they met earlier. Also, the city is looking for a new police chief since the previous one retired. 5. Galt Herald Article Adult mentor Klotz shared that she observed there seemed to be an abundance of articles about distance learning. 6. Community Project: Care Packages Commissioner Sosa withdrew the project from consideration. 7. Community Project: Adopting a Street Due to poor air quality from the recent fires, Commissioner Murillo Cuevas postponed cleaning the street. With the commission not able to convene in person due to COVID-19, Murillo Cuevas is planning on cleaning the street with her family. 8. Community Project: Pen Pals Commissioner Gold sent out an outline to the commission of her plan. The goal would be for commissioners to write to two people every month. Adult Mentor Klotz and Commissioner Gold are working on getting a list of people to write letters to. Commissioners Mejia and Romero were added to the subcommittee. 9. Community Project: Random Acts of Kindness Commissioner Neuburger shared that she wanted to make masks for the local library workers, school IT workers, and bus drivers as well as thank you cards and cookie platters to school staff for their work. The recognition would occur in February 2021. A motion was made to approve a budget not to exceed $100. Motion: Neuburger Second: Gold Aye: 10 Nay: 0 Abstain: 0 10. Community Project: Drive-In Movie Commissioner Kunze shared that the date is set for mid-October. Unfortunately, the commission will not be able to sell food. The committee, which is being run through the City of Galt, suggested that the commission can talk to businesses and seek out sponsorships for the event. 11. Future Agenda Items - Roundtable with City Manager Hines - Other Community Projects 12. Around the Horn/Give Your Gratitude Commissioner Gold was complemented on her work on her pen pals project. Adult Mentor Klotz complimented Commissioner Sosa on her decision to withdraw her project idea. She also thanked commissioners Murillo Cuevas for trying to continue her project while facing restrictions due to COVID-19. Murillo Cuevas congratulated Chair Rivas on running her first meeting. CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) ADVISORY To protect our constituents, City officials and City staff, the City requests all members of the public to follow the California Department of Health Services’ guidance and the County of Sacramento Public Health Officer Order for the Control of COVID-19 restricting group events and gatherings and maintaining social distancing. Additional information regarding COVID-19 is available on the City’s website at www.ci.galt.ca.us. Consistent with Executive Order N-29-20, the meeting will be held via teleconference/electronically and the City Council will participate via teleconference/electronically. In-person participation by the public will not be permitted and no physical location from which the public may observe the meeting will be available.
