CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION Meeting Minutes, October 5, 2020 Meeting via Zoom 380 CIVIC DRIVE GALT, CALIFORNIA A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Rivas called meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. B. ROLL CALL: Adult Mentors Present: Gordon, Klotz, Lampson Mentors Absent: None Youth Members Present: Akers, Gold, Hemenover, Kunze, Murillo Cuevas, Neuburger, Rivas, Romero, Sosa Members Absent: Mejia C. PUBLIC COMMENT: None D. PRESENTATIONS: E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Adult Mentor Klotz provided the commission with an icebreaker that questioned what set them apart from others. 2. Approval of Minutes for the Meeting of September 14, 2020 The minutes for last month’s meeting were approved. Motion: Sosa Second: Romero Ayes: 9 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0 3. Treasurer’s Report Treasurer Murillo Cuevas reviewed the funds of the GYC account which was $2,753.32. She also sought input on the amount of funding to set aside for the Galt Youth Commission scholarship next year. 4. City Council Update Councilmember Lampson shared that the City Council is still meeting via Zoom. She also mentioned that two adult mentor candidates will be considered at the next city council meeting. 5. Galt Herald Article Commissioner Romero shared the Galt Herald article “Seeing red – Sacramento County moves to Red Tier 2” with the commission. The article highlighted the effects on local businesses and schools as Galt and Sacramento County move to second tier in the state’s framework that lays out measures must meet to lift COVID-19 restrictions. 6. Community Project: Adopting a Street Commissioner Murillo Cuevas shared that she, her father and sister cleaned the area along Lincoln Way. It took them less than two hours to get it done. 7. Community Project: Pen Pals Commissioner Gold reports that they obtaining the names and addresses of 12-15 people to participate in the pen pals project. They are anticipating assigning commissioners to people within the next two weeks. 8. Community Project: Random Acts of Kindness Commissioner Neuburger shared the subcommittee bought materials to make the masks. 9. Community Project: Drive-In Movie Commissioner Kunze shared that due to complications with getting approval from Sacramento County to have the Drive-In Movie, the committee decided to cancel the event. 10. Trunk of Treat Community Event Commissioner Sosa reported that the City of Galt will be holding a Trunk or Treat event on October 30th. The event will start at 6:30pm. Cars will be driving to the fairgrounds and various organizations will be passing out candy. Sosa estimated that about 750 kids will be present. She would like to pass out four candies to each child as well as a flyer on the Galt Youth Commission. A motion to approve a budget not to exceed $150 was approved. Motion: Kunze Second: Gold Ayes: 9 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0 Commissioners Gold, Romero, Kunze Neuburger, and Rivas volunteered to serve on the subcommittee with Commissioner Sosa serving as the lead. 11. Lessons of Leadership Adult Mentor Klotz overviewed the purpose and importance of an elevator speech. Chair Rivas and Vice Chair Kunze then shared their elevator speech as it relates to the Galt Youth Commission. The remaining commissioners will be tasked with developing their own elevator speech at an upcoming meeting. 12. Future Agenda Items 13. Around the Horn/Give Your Gratitude Commissioner Romero was complemented on her Galt Herald news article report. Commissioner Murillo Cuevas was complemented on her level of preparation with her Treasurer’s Report. Commissioner Neuburger was complimented for offering her car for the Trunk or Treat event. CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) ADVISORY To protect our constituents, City officials and City staff, the City requests all members of the public to follow the California Department of Health Services’ guidance and the County of Sacramento Public Health Officer Order for the Control of COVID-19 restricting group events and gatherings and maintaining social distancing. Additional information regarding COVID-19 is available on the City’s website at www.ci.galt.ca.us. Consistent with Executive Order N-29-20, the meeting will be held via teleconference/electronically and the City Council will participate via teleconference/electronically. In-person participation by the public will not be permitted and no physical location from which the public may observe the meeting will be available.
