A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER: Chair Rivas, called meeting to order at 6:00 P.M.
B. ROLL CALL:
Adult Mentors Present: Gordon, Hill, Klotz, Lampson, Maaga
Mentors Absent: None
Youth Members Present: Akers, Gold, Hemenover, Kunze (arrived at 6:04pm), Mejia
(arrived at 6:04pm), Murillo Cuevas, Neuburger, Rivas, Sosa, Romero (arrived 6:07pm)

C. PUBLIC COMMENT:
None
D. PRESENTATIONS:
Corey Reihl Chief Business Official, Galt High School District
Reihl and Kevin Clemons highlighted construction updates on the local high schools that
were funded under Measure E. Among the projects were upgrading the football stadium
at Galt High and developing a football field at Liberty Ranch High School. Galt High
School also had a new science building constructed on campus>
E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Icebreaker
Icebreaker was tabled.
2. Roundtable Discussion with City Manager Lorenzo Hines
Hines sought input from the commissioners on four primary topics: Past/present/future
of Galt, postsecondary education opportunities, housing and access to city-wide
internet. Commissioners reported concerns about housing and traffic impacts resulting
from increased growth. Additionally, commissioners were asked what they would like
to see that would make them not move away from Galt. Commissioners shared
entertainment facilities like a movie theatre or a large, open area located in proximity
to coffee shops or restaurants so they can gather and socialize. Commissioners talked
about the need for affordable housing like apartments. The commissioners reported
that home internet service in the outskirts of town were sketchy at times.
3. Approval of minutes for the meeting of November 2, 2020
A motion was made to approve the minutes with amendments.
Motion: Murillo Cuevas Second: Romero Ayes: 10 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0
4. Treasurer’s Report
The funds for the commission were reviewed with the total being $2,664.01.
5. GYC Scholarship
A motion was made to offer three scholarships not to exceed $750 for the 2021 GYC
scholarship.
Motion: Mejia Second: Gold Ayes: 10 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0
6. City Council Update
Council member Lampson presented that there are two new members elected to serve
on the Galt City Council. Shawn Farmer has been selected as the new mayor for Galt.
7. Galt Herald Article
Commissioner Mejia shared about the article “Local restaurants struggle under new
COVID-19 safety protocols” that ran in the Galt Herald on December 2nd.
8. Elevator Speeches
Commissioners Gold, Romero, and Sosa shared their elevator speeches.
9. Community Project: Adopting a Street
Commissioner Murillo Cuevas reported that a group of two teams went out and picked
up trash along Lincoln Way which took about an hour. Concerned on the
commission’s ability to maintain their commitment during the COVID-19 restrictions,
she found out that the commission was not in jeopardy of losing their adopt a street
sign on Lincoln Way.
10. Community Project: Pen Pals
Commissioner Gold reported that the first batch of letters were mailed to the seniors.
Some shared the positive responses they received back.
11. Community Project: Random Acts of Kindness
Commissioner Neuburger received all materials and will be scheduling a Zoom call to
work together with others to make the masks.
12. Rotary Community Dinner
Adult Mentor Klotz shared that the annual dinner this year will distribute dinner boxes
to interested parties on December 19th. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, any
commissioner interested in volunteering would have to do it as a private citizen and
not a youth commissioner.
13. Lessons of Leadership
Tabled for next month’s meeting.

15. Around the Horn/Give Your Gratitude
Each commissioner shared their thanks and gratitude towards out going City
Councilmember Paige Lampson. There were notes of thanks for her help, humor, and
care to each commissioner. Adult Mentor Maaga shared a potential opportunity to
work with youth leaders in Sacramento concerning youth mental health.

CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) ADVISORY To protect our constituents, City officials and City staff, the
City requests all members of the public to follow the California Department of Health Services’ guidance and the
County of Sacramento Public Health Officer Order for the Control of COVID-19 restricting group events and
gatherings and maintaining social distancing. Additional information regarding COVID-19 is available on the City’s
website at www.ci.galt.ca.us.
Consistent with Executive Order N-29-20, the meeting will be held via teleconference/electronically and the City
Council will participate via teleconference/electronically. In-person participation by the public will not be permitted
and no physical location from which the public may observe the meeting will be available. Remote public
