CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES 380 CIVIC DRIVE via ZOOM GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, March 1st, 2021, 6:00PM A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER/FLAG SALUTE B. ROLL CALL: Adult Members Present: Hill, Klotz, Lampson, Maaga Adult Members Absent: Mayor Farmer Youth Commissioners Present: Akers, Gold, Hemenover, Kunze, Mejia, Murillo Cuevas, Neuburger, Rivas, Romero, Sosa. Youth Commissioners Absent: None C. PUBLIC COMMENT - Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may address the commission on any item of interest to the public. Speakers may address commission on any agenda item during consideration of the item. Please come to the podium and limit your comments to three (3) minutes. D. PRESENTATIONS: Galt Teen Center The president of the Galt Teen Center came to the commission to ask for volunteers to help plan and participate in setting up the event. The event is set for early April. E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker and Lessons in Leadership Group Share Adult Mentor Klotz provided the commission with an icebreaker where each person would share a hero in their life and what characteristics they display. 2. Approval of minutes for the meeting of February 1, 2021 Action Item Tabled to review and approve next meeting. 3. Treasurer’s Report Information Item The funds are still sitting at $1,914.01. 4. Galt Teen Center Scavenger Hunt _ ________ Action Item A motion that the Youth Commission partner on project presented Motion: Murillo Cuevas Second: Gold Ayes: 10 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0 5. City Council Update Information Item Councilmember Lozano filled in for Mayor Farmer and updated the commission with information such as a vaccination clinic. He also mentioned there were 800-900 people vaccinated at liberty ranch. There is also a housing project going on in town. 6. Galt Herald Article Information Item Commissioner Alexa Murillo Cuevas presented the commission with an article about how some schools are allowing sports back up in school. 7. Community Project: Pen Pals Information Item Commissioner Gold will provide an update on this project by informing the commission if they need supplies, she has them. 8. Community Project: Random Acts of Kindness Information Item Commissioner Neuburger will provide an update on this project saying the project is completed and they delivered the masks and cards. The schools were ecstatic to receive the gifts and were incredibly happy overall. 9. Youth Mental Health PSA project Action Item Adult Mentors Maaga and Lampson and Commissioners Murillo Cuevas and Sosa lead a discussion about the sub-committees plans for a PSA to help our youth relieve stress. The plan is for everyone to film a video clip of how they relieve stress and combine them. Motion: Sosa Second: Murillo Cuevas Ayes: 10 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0 10. Galt Youth Commission Recruitment Timelines Information Item Adult Mentor Jessica Gordon overviewed the recruitment process. The application was also formed and needs to be approved. Motion: Second: Ayes: 9 Nays: 0 Abstain: 1 11. Future Agenda Items - Ice Cream Social - 12. Around the Horn/Galt Youth Archives Information Item Commissioner Kunze suggested an archive for future members to look back on for inspiration and to see history. CORONAVIRUS DISEASE (COVID-19) ADVISORY To protect our constituents, City officials and City staff, the City requests all members of the public to follow the California Department of Health Services’ guidance and the County of Sacramento Public Health Officer Order for the Control of COVID-19 restricting group events and gatherings and maintaining social distancing. Additional information regarding COVID-19 is available on the City’s website at www.ci.galt.ca.us. Consistent with Executive Order N-29-20, the meeting will be held via teleconference/electronically and the City Council will participate via teleconference/electronically. In-person participation by the public will not be permitted and no physical location from which the public may observe the meeting will be available.
