CITY OF GALT SPECIAL GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES 380 CIVIC DRIVE GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, APRIL 12, 2021, 6:00PM A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER/FLAG SALUTE: Chair Rivas called this meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners: Akers, Gold, Hemenover, Kunze, Mejia, Murillo Cuevas, Neuburger, Rivas, Romero, Sosa. Youth Commissioners Absent: None Adult Members: Hill, Klotz, Lampson, Maaga, Mayor Farmer Adult Mentors Absent: Maaga C. PUBLIC COMMENT - Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may address the commission on any item of interest to the public. Speakers may address commission on any agenda item during consideration of the item. Please come to the podium and limit your comments to three (3) minutes. None. D. PRESENTATIONS: Breathe California came to the Commission to address their past successful partnership, as well as discussing whether the Commission was still interested in taking this project as a proposal to the City Council for improved air regulations around the City of Galt. City of Galt-City Manager, Lorenzo Hines came to the Commission to discuss the possible future plans for the Galt Market and how it can be beneficial for Galt. The presentation showed elaborate ideas and plans that showed suggestions the Commission gave such as more housing. This project will take around 20-30 years if approved and the Commission showed their gratitude and interest towards this Galt Market Project. E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker and Lessons in Leadership Group Share Adult Mentor Klotz provided the Commission with an icebreaker where each individual shared their strongest leadership quality and how they are able to put it to use. 2. Youth Commission Secretary Action Item The Youth Commission selected Chair Rivas to take over secretarial duties for the April GYC meeting. Motion: Kunze Second: Sosa Ayes: 9 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0 3. Approval of minutes for the meeting of February 1, 2021 and review draft minutes for the meeting of March 1, 2021 Action Item The Commission approved the reviewed and amended minutes of March 1, 2021. Motion: Kunze Second: Murillo Cuevas Ayes: 9 Nays: 0 Abstain: 0 4. Treasurer’s Report Information Item Commissioner Murillo Cuevas updated the Treasurer’s Report by informing the Commission that Commissioner Neuburger was reimbursed for the Random Acts of Kindness project, a total of $38.69. The budget for this project was $100 and the money leftover was $61.31 which was put back into our account. Our new and current total for the GYC account is $1,975.32. 5. Galt Youth Commission Recruitment Information Item Adult Mentor Hill presented the current progress of recruitment by informing the Commission that a little amount of students have applied for the GYC recruitment. There may be a deadline extension for the application based on how many applicants have applied. The subcommittee will be conducting interviews in the following weeks. 6. Galt Teen Center Scavenger Hunt _ ________ Information Item Vice Chair Kunze updated the Commission on the Scavenger Hunt by informing them that the event will be postponed for now. The Galt Teen Center will update the Commission with more information in the future about this partnership. 7. City Council Update Information Item Mayor Farmer presented this month’s update by restateing a brief summary on the Galt Market Plan and that the City Council is looking forward to the future improvements for the City of Galt. He also informed the Commission on other topics that were discussed at the Council meeting. 8. Galt Herald Article Information Item Commissioner Sosa presented this month's article by informing the Commission that the Elementary Superintendent, Karen Shauer will retire after her 40 year career in education for Galt schools. 9. Community Project: Pen Pals Information Item Commissioner Gold provided an update on this project by letting the Commission know that more cards and envelopes were delivered with the goodie bags from Adult Mentor Klotz. 10. Youth Mental Health PSA project Information Item Adult Mentor Lampson and Commissioners Murillo Cuevas and Sosa updated the Commission on the progress of the PSA project. The majority of the GYC didn’t have the opportunity to finish their videos. Chair Rivas decided that there would be an extension for the video submissions until April 19th. 11. Future Agenda Items -GYC Retreat -Ice Cream Social 12. Around the Horn/Galt Youth Archives_____________________ _______________Information Item The Adult Mentors complemented the Commission on how outspoken and helpful they were during the presented presentations. Chair Rivas congratulated the Commission for continuing to show their hardwork and dedication throughout the monthly meetings.
