GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
COMMUNITY CONFERENCE ROOM, 380 CIVIC DRIVE
GALT, CALIFORNIA

Mission Statement
- Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens.
- Stimulate community service in Galt
- Encourage family participation in building civic unity.
- Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community.
- Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth
- Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families.
A. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER AT 6:30PM
B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners: Akers, Bowman, Brixey, Bulahan, Murillo Cuevas,
Cullers, Jones, Lallian, Ortega, Sandhu.
Absent Commissioner Kayson Jones
Mentors: Fjeldstad, Goerzen, King, Lampson. Council Liaison: Mayor Vandenburg

C. PUBLIC COMMENT - Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may
address the commission on any item of interest to the public. Speakers may address commission on
any agenda item during consideration of the item. Please come to the podium and limit your
comments to three (3) minutes.

E. REGULAR BUSINESS:
1. Icebreaker Information Item
Mentor King gave the ice breaker on favorite summer activity.
2. City Clerk Introduction Information Item
Galt City Clerk, Tina Hubert, shared the roles and responsibilities of the clerk’s office to the
commission.
3. Budget Report Information Item
City Clerk, Tina Hubert explained the process of getting reimbursed monetarily for activities. Must
fill out form, attach copy of minutes and receipt.
4. Commissioner’s Responsibilities Information Item
Mentor Lampson overviewed the purpose and importance of the GYC ordinance, bylaws, and the
Brown Act.
5. Making a Motion Information Item
Mayor Vandenburg explained the basics of making a motion. Roseburg’s Rules of Order will be
distributed as a resource.
6. Approval of minutes for the meeting of May 1, 2023 Action Item
Motion made by Cullers, 2nd Murillo Cuevas. Passed 9-0
7. Old Galt Festival Sept 23rd Action Item
Mentor Goerzen-Commissioners voted 9-0 to participate in Old Town Festival. Motion made by
Murillo Cuevas, 2nd Brixey.
8. Lincoln Way adopt a street Action Item
Commission discussed and voted 9-0 to continue our adopt a street efforts on Lincoln Way and
continue working with the Beautification Committee on Saturday clean-up once a month. Motion
made by Murillo Cuevas, 2nd Cullers.
9. Overview of the GYC officer positions Information Item
Mentor Goerzon. went over the officer positions and elections will be during the September meeting.
10. September scheduled meeting_________________________ ________________Action Item
Since the September meeting landed on Labor Day, the commission voted to move meeting to Sept.
11, 2023. Motion made by Brixey, 2nd Akers, passed 9-0.

RECOMMENDATION: Approve the minutes

Mentor Goerzen-The festival committee would like commission to participate.

Discuss and vote on continuing to sponsor street clean up and participation.
9. Overview of the GYC officer positions Information Item
Mentor Goerzon. will go over the positions, their jobs, commitments.

Consider moving September meeting since it lands on a holiday.
