Measure R Citizen Oversight Committee

CITY OF GALT MEASURE R OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES ANTHONY PESCETTI COMMUNITY ROOM 455 INDUSTRIAL DRIVE, GALT, CALIFORNIA Wednesday, October 25, 2017, 6:00 PM Chair Cortez called the meeting to order at 6:00pm. The roll call found Cortez, Keagy, Klassen, and Talamantes present. We saluted the American Flag. Old Business: The minutes of the last meeting were presented. Keagy moved and Talamantes seconded to approve the minutes. The motion carried 5-0. New Business: The 2017/2018 first quarter report was presented. Roundtable: Chief Sockman, Lt. Kalinowski and Lt. Dedriksen were present to answer questions. Klassen asked about Measure R money being spent on the Professional Standards Officer. Chief Sockman explained the Professional Standards Officer’s position as the duties pertain to Recruitment, Policy, Training and Internal Investigations. Klassen requested documentation on Recruitment and Retention. Klassen then moved to accept the report as presented, which was seconded and carried unanimously. Cortez reminded the committee members of the upcoming Committee/Commission/Volunteer recognition gathering coming up on December 5th at 5:00pm, just prior to the Council meeting. Cortez said he noticed quite a few police officers being sworn in at council meetings and asked why there seemed to be so many. Chief Sockman spoke about our department staffing, attrition, and recruiting efforts, adding that he felt we would be in good shape at the beginning of the year. Cortez agreed that we seem to be hiring quality people. Kathleen Amos was in the audience and asked who our Professional Standards Officer is to which Chief Sockman answered Steve Warne. Our next regular meeting will be at 6:00 PM Wednesday, January 24th, 2018. Meeting was adjourned at 6:46 pm.
