PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING

1. CALL MEETING TO ORDER at 6:07 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL:
a. Commissioners Present: Cason, Williams, Graham, Smith
b. Commissioners Absent: Miller
3. CHANGES TO THE ORDER OF AGENDA
4. PUBLIC COMMENT: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the
public may address the commission on non-agenda items. Speakers may also
address the commission on any agenda item during consideration of the
item. Speakers shall restrict their comments to issues that are within the subject
matter jurisdiction of the commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5)
minutes. Please fill out a speaker sheet located on the table inside the entrances
to the council chambers and forward the completed speaker sheet to the
commission secretary. Please state your name and city of residence prior to
making your comments.
5. ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES
a. Minutes of the Special Meeting of June 26, 2019.
• Commissioner Williams made a motion to accept the meeting
minutes of June 26, 2019 Special Meeting.
• Commissioner Graham made a second to the motion.
• All in favor (4-4), minutes accepted.
6. PRESENTATIONS
a. Greater Sacramento Softball Association Grant Check Presentation – Jeff
Dubchansky
• A grant check for $825 was presented to Commission Chair Smith
to upgrade the softball program video recording.

8. NEW BUSINESS
a. Prop 68 Grant Application
Recommendation: Recommend that City Council adopt resolutions
approving the renovation projects and authorizing the Director of Parks and
Recreation to execute and submit periodic grant documents on behalf of
the City of Galt for all State of California Department of Parks and
Recreation Office of Grants and Local Services Proposition 68 Grants for
which the City is eligible for the following Parks:
I. Meadowview Park
II. Harvey Park
III. Lions Oak Park
IV. Gora Aquatic Center/Chabolla Skate Park
b. Commissioner Cason made a motion to accept the recommendation as
presented.
c. Commissioner Williams made a second to the motion.
d. All in favor (4-4), recommendation made.
9. UPCOMING COUNCIL AGENDA ITEMS
a. Prop 68 Grants 7/16 – Director Solis will make a verbal recommendation
to City Council while presenting staff report on 7/16/19.
10. UPCOMING EVENTS
a. Teen Center Carnival July 12, 2019
b. A Taste of the Market July 14, 2019
c. Club Prime Sand Volleyball Tournament July 14, 2019
d. Food Truck Mania August 3, 2019
11. STAFF COMMENTS
a. Budget cuts to be presented to City Council during overview on July 31,
2019, to meet $1.1 million deficit. In August the City Manager will
recommend cuts to all departments in order to meet the $1.1 million deficit.
b. Parks Maintenance signs will be posted in the parks, parks reduced to
mowing once a month, reducing watering to Stage 1.
c. Modifications have been made to the parks closure schedule include
closing the Monterey Dog Park last daily. Parks have to be closed by 10:00
p.m.
