Chairperson: Vice-Chairperson: Carrie Graham Commission: Ernie Cason Jr., John McNamara, Chris Smith 1. CALL MEETING TO ORDER at 6:18 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL: a. Commissioners Present: Cason, Smith, Graham b. Commissioners Absent: McNamara 3. CHANGES TO THE ORDER OF AGENDA 4. PUBLIC COMMENT: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the public may address the Parks and Recreation Commission on non-agenda items. The public comments section is for the Parks and Recreation Commission to receive comments; except for brief response to questions, no discussion or action may be taken on any item that is not listed on the agenda. Please limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. Please fill out a speaker sheet located on the table inside the entrances to the council chambers and forward the completed speaker sheet to the commission secretary. Please state your name and city of residence prior to making your comments. 5. ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES a. Minutes of the meeting of January 10, 2024 • Commissioner Cason made a motion to accept the minutes of the January 10, 2024, Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. • Commissioner Smith made a second to the motion to accept the minutes of the January 10, 2024, Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. • All present in favor, minutes accepted. 6. PRESENTATIONS 7. NEW BUSINESS a. Election – Chairperson • Commissioner Cason made a motion to move the election to the next Parks and Recreation Commission meeting on May 8, 2024. • Commissioner Smith made a second to the motion to move the GALT PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION AGENDA OF MARCH 13, 2024 MEETING Page 2 election to the next Parks and Recreation Commission meeting on May 8, 2024. • All present in favor. b. Liberty Ranch Park • Director Solis discussed Liberty Ranch subdivision phase 1. • The conceptual plan for the open neighborhood park includes a large and smaller playground area, shade structures with picnic tables, bike racks and receptacles for trash. • No Commissioner expressed concern about the conceptual plan. 8. OLD BUSINESS a. Gora Aquatic Center Slide Project Update • Gora Aquatic Center slide project was approved to go out for engineering and prepare for bids. • City Council approved 30 ft. slide option. b. Chabolla Skate Park Update • Approved by the City Council to go with the larger cement park estimated at $ 2.4 million dollars. • Currently preparing bid documents to gather bids for the project. c. Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan Update • City Council approved a contract with RHAA. • Project will take 12 months to complete. • RHAA will evaluate the parks that we have now, what needs to be repaired, how much staff we should have, will also evaluate our programs. 9. UPCOMING COUNCIL AGENDA ITEMS • Director Solis informed the commissioners that the city’s taking Special Event Sponsorship program to City Council for preview on April 2, 2024 and on April 16, 2024 to award sponsorships. 10. UPCOMING EVENTS a. Saturday Market – 4/6 • First Saturday Market on March 2, 2024 was rained out • Saturday Market kick-off/Touch-A-Truck event, moved to April 6, 2024 11.
