CITY OF GALT PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES ANTHONY PESCETTI COMMUNITY ROOM 455 INDUSTRIAL DRIVE, GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2024, 6:00 PM The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm by Chair Reed. Committee Members present were: Chair Reed, Vice Chair Schamber, Cates, K. Sandhu and Selby. Absent: (Non-Voting Member) – Mayor Paul Sandhu. Staff Members present were: Police Chief Kalinowski, Executive Assistant Wendy Masters, John Griffin PW Director. We pledged allegiance to the American Flag. PUBLIC COMMENT: None PRESENTATION: None ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION: 1. Approval of Minutes from the September 23, 2024 meeting: The Minutes from the September 23, 2024 meeting were reviewed and approved with a motion by Cates and seconded by Selby. Approved with a vote of 4-0, 1 abstention – Vice Chair Schamber. 2. Carillion Blvd. Safety Project: Public Works Director John Griffin responded. The speed limit was discussed. Vice Chair Schamber inquired of the number of speeding citations given so far this year. Chief Kalinowski stated there have been (4) traffic accidents this year and will provide the amount of speeding citations at a later date. 3. Excessive speeding on Carillion Blvd.: Was covered with item #2. 4. Crosswalks at Lake Park Avenue and Carillion Blvd.: Public Works Director John Griffin responded. A discussion of adding crosswalks and rumble strips took place. PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES REGULAR MEETING OF NOVEMBER 25, 2024 PAGE 2 5. Traffic control plans for Simmerhorn Road and Carillion Blvd.: Public Works Director John Griffin responded. He said there will be a 4 way stop at Simmerhorn Road/Carillion Blvd. and Boessow Road/Carillion Blvd. Deputy Fire Chief Dan Quiggle addressed the concerns of speed bumps and speed tables and how they slow down response times for First Responders. 6. Crosswalks/curbs construction at Walnut Avenue and Marengo Road: Public Works Director John Griffin responded. He said the rain has delayed the pour of the sidewalk curb/ramps. 7. Truck permitted parking areas: A discussion occurred regarding flatbed trucks & trailers parking on Marengo Road at Twin Cities Road during the night. 8. Faded stop sign lines (should be “faded lanes”) on W. Stockton Blvd. at Walnut Avenue and on Live Oak Avenue at W. Stockton Blvd.: Public Works Director John Griffin will research this. UPDATES: 1. Chief Kalinowski discussed the Semi-Truck loading/unloading time restrictions for the Wal-Mart located on Twin Cities Road. 2. Chief Kalinowski discussed some of the Public Safety Committee member term expiration dates. The vacant seats should be filled prior to the next meeting, depending on the applications received. 3. Public Works Director John Griffin stated the paving on C Street was delayed this week due to the rain. 4. Deputy Fire Chief Dan Quiggle thanked the committee members for their service. He also discussed the CSD Fire Department academy, recruitments and vacancies. CORRESPONDENCE: None COMMENTS BY COMMITTEE MEMBERS: 1. Vice Chair Schamber discussed the upcoming community Christmas Toy Drive and the need for donations. ADJOURNMENT: With no further business, Chair Tim Reed adjourned the meeting at 6:46 pm. Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 27, 2025.
