PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING

MONDAY, May 19, 2014, 6:00 PM
Councilman Crews called the meeting to order at 6:01pm.
The roll call found Lagge, Bezanson, Crews, Canning and Shelton present.
We saluted the American Flag.
The minutes of the last meeting were presented to all members, no changes were
recommended. Bezanson moved that the minutes be accepted, Shelton
seconded. Motion carried.
ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION:
Crews reported back that the City is partial owner of the Simmerhorn Road/NB Hwy 99
area that is in need of road repair and that it will be going to bid soon.
Gregory Langer, Battalion Chief at CSD reported on the E Stockton Blvd/Walnut
Avenue/Fermoy area where weed abatement has been an issue.
Crews gave a report on his trip to Washington DC including information on grant
opportunities. Range improvements continue to be an issue as these grants cannot
be used for this purpose. The National memorial ride (300 miles) of over 1,800 riders
was impressive especially because it included Chief Bowen.
ROUND TABLE:
McCune brought up expired registration/tags/abandoned vehicles from our last meeting.
Lt. Vizzusi again explained how the Police Department handles these types of
issues. Committee members should call and encourage the public to call the
Police Department with these issues.
Lagge expressed concerns over the new “ped-islands” near Walmart as well as the
striping and bike lane configurations. Discussion followed including the original
plan for walkways for Seniors in the area.
Lagge also advised of increased traffic in the area of Adare and Fermoy. Lt. Vizzusi
advised the area is being patrolled and violators are being cited.
Shelton reminded the group that Public Safety Day was coming up and offered his help
as did Lagge.
Our next meeting will be at 6:00 PM Monday, July 30th , 2014

C) Weed abatements; E Stockton Blvd, north of Walnut, south of Adare at the end of
Fermoy-Singleton to contact Fire Chief
Recommended Action: Review and take action as deemed appropriate.
