CITY OF GALT PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING SPECIAL MINUTES ANTHONY PESCETTI COMMUNITY ROOM 455 INDUSTRIAL DRIVE, GALT, CALIFORNIA Monday, October 18, 2021, 6:00 PM The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:00pm by Mayor Farmer. Committee Members present were: Farmer, Sandhu, Schamber, McCord, Reed, and Schopf. Staff Members present were: Police Chief Kalinowski and Lt. Richard Small Mayor Farmer led us as we pledged allegiance to the American Flag. PUBLIC COMMENT: 1. Laurel Cordonnier spoke about concerns related to traffic around McCaffrey Middle School during the drop-off and pick-up hours. Chief Kalinowski stated this information would be passed on to the traffic unit. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION: 1. The minutes from the July 26, 2021 meeting were reviewed and approved by motion from Schamber and second by Farmer and unanimous vote. 2. Underage vaping / drug user: McCord expressed concern over recent vaping issues at local high schools and information that vape items were being sold to minors via social media. The committee suggested the use of School Resource Officers to work with the local schools to address these issues. The use of social media to address these issues was also suggested. 3. West Nile Virus: Farmer provided updated information related to West Nile Virus and the presence of mosquitos at local parks. He also shared the work by Vector Control to address these concerns. 4. Body Worn Cameras Update: Chief Kalinowski provided an update on the future deployment of body-worn and in-car camera systems. 5. Real Time Crime Center Presentation: GPD Officer Michael Little presented a project proposing the creation of a Real Time Crime Center which includes the use of Automated License Plate Readers. Reed provided information on possible grants through CalOES. TRAFFIC CONCERNS: 1. Lt. Small provided an update on traffic concerns from the prior meeting. CORRESPONDENCE: No correspondence. COMMENTS BY COMMITTEE MEMBERS: Schamber requested future discussion about the after-hours use of alcohol at City parks. Schopf requested information related to the potential impacts if cannabis-related businesses were allowed to operate in the City. Farmer advised that there is no Council actions related to cannabis businesses other than potential community outreach related to determining if there is an interest in allowing these types of businesses. This matter is currently at the Council level. Next meeting is scheduled for January 24, 2022. With no further business, Mayor Farmer adjourned the meeting at approximately 7:40pm.
