RE: Minutes for the Board of Health meeting held on Monday, December 8,2014
5:00 Meeting called to order
5:05 Meeting minutes dated August 18,2014 were signed. Meeting minutes from October 20,2014
were approved pending corrections to be made therefore were not signed.
5:15 Dr. Miller acknowledged the Mass Public Health Nursing Award earned by Sandra Knipe. He
also acknowledged the Award earned by Phil Legere.
5:20 Old business: City Counselor Scott Graves has requested more information on the Central Mass
Mosquito Control Project. He wants to discuss it further with the Mayor. The Public Safety
Committee has brought it up at a meeting. Bernie has looked into the current environmental
practices used by the Project and he found them to be very good. Dr. Miller asked about the
sludge landfill issue. Bernie informed the Board that the City Council has discussed it. The
Sewer Department has submitted an application for the vertical expansion to the DEP and was
found to be in technical deficiency because of existing odor complaints. The DEP has returned the
application stating that the City needs to address the odor complaints. Now there is an order that
needs to be addressed. Council wants a public forum before an expansion is approved. Bernie
wants to try lime treatments to reduce the odors.
5:40 New business: Bernie informed the Board that all licensing is taking place now. Ms. Avallone
inquired about abandoned truildings. Bernie went to housing court with an attorney from the
Attorney General's office on a property. This is an ongoing issue with letters treing sent from the
Attorney General's office.
5:53 Set next meeting, adjourn
