Village of Grantsburg 316 Brad Street South Grantsburg, WI 54840 Public Safety Committee Meeting Minutes The Village Public Safety Committee met on Wednesday, August 13 at 9:00 a.m. in the Village Board room, 316 Brad St S, Grantsburg, WI 54840. Present: Chairman/Trustee Greg Peer Trustee John Addison Trustee Sam Campeau Others: Chief Jared Woody Others: Curtis Sutherland and Nicole Mothes *This committee meeting was recorded as Deputy Clerk/Treasurer had to assist customers and needed the recording to be utilized for minute taking. All those present were made aware the meeting was being recorded. Chairman Peer called the Public Safety Committee Meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Property Maintenance questions and review Chief Woody asked the committee for guidance on exterior house maintenance and how much emphasis the committee would like to place on that section of the code. Deputy Clerk/Treasurer Longhenry provided an overview of Village ordinance section §415-14 Minimum standards for exterior maintenance. The committee agreed they would like the focus of exterior maintenance to first be on the safety aspect. The committee continued to discuss the process for rental properties. They indicated it is the property owner’s responsibility to maintain the property in compliance with Village ordinances; therefore, the owners will receive all notices and fines. The committee discussed the possibility of having the letters include more detail on the specific ordinance violation. Chief Woody indicated he would discuss that request with Police Office Administrator Lee as she was not present due to training. Curtis Sutherland and Nicole Mothes 232 E Madison Avenue – Sutherland and Mothes joined the meeting to discuss the non-permitted structure and report of living in a camper at their address. They indicated that the structure was not permanent and that no one was living in the camper. The committee informed them that the structure, no matter permanence, would require a permit held by the property owner if it remained on the property and that the structure is likely non-conforming for the zoning district. Sutherland and Mothes provided a plan for removing the structure and indicated that the violation would be removed by the end of September of this year. They have sold the structure, and it will require heavy equipment to move, they indicated if this sale falls through, they will remove the structure from the property piece by piece. The committee thanked Sutherland and Mothes for attending the meeting and sharing their plan. The committee chose to postpone any citations for the time being and will review the property at the committee’s next meeting in October. Sutherland and Mothes left the meeting at 10:51 a.m. The committee reviewed 60 properties and issued several initial and 2nd letters, 22 citations and one 2nd citation. The committee also reviewed several properties that will be tabled until spring due to their consistent improvement and considered many properties resolved and no longer requiring review. No motions were made at this meeting. The committee set the next Public Safety Committee meeting for Wednesday, October 8 at 9:00 a.m. The meeting was adjourned at 11:17 a.m. Allison Longhenry Deputy Clerk/Treasurer
