Business of Guests A. Meg Mannion - Choptank Presentation City Administrator BJ King introduced Meg Mannion and her team from Choptank, who were present to discuss the next steps in the city's reidentification efforts. Mr. King noted that the directors had met with the team earlier that day and had a productive discussion. He emphasized that tonight's presentation would not include renditions of proposed logos but rather would focus on gathering input and direction for the city's reidentification strategy. He clarified that these were still big ideas being refined into a direction for Groveport. Meg Mannion presented their findings from sessions with stakeholders and community survey results. She reported receiving about 200 responses from the community survey, which she considered a positive response rate with no complaints on social media. Six common themes emerged from their research: 1. Small town feel and strong community pride - Residents deeply valued Groveport's friendly atmosphere, close-knit relationships, and sense of belonging. 2. Desire for more amenities and activities - The community wanted more local businesses, dining establishments, and structured activities beyond the scheduled annual events. 3. Preserving history while looking forward - There was strong pride in the heritage and historical aspects of Groveport, along with interest in continued forward progress and revitalization. 4. Collaboration and communication - The community expressed eagerness to work with the city on events but noted uncertainty about the proper channels for engagement. 5. Need for clear identity and visibility - Many felt Groveport was an "under the radar" community and wanted to better define what makes it unique to both residents and visitors. 6. Balance between charm and development - Stakeholders supported growth while wanting Groveport to remain authentic and maintain its natural beauty. Ms. Mannion then presented three strategic direction options for Groveport's rebranding: City of Groveport Page 2 City Council Meeting Minutes June 30, 2025 1. "Uniquely Groveport: A Town with One Name and 1,000 Stories" - This concept celebrates Groveport's rare identity as the only town of its name in the country, highlighting its deep-rooted heritage, tight-knit community, and sense of quiet pride with a bold personality and humorous tone. 2. "Recreation Reimagined: Where Movement Meets Meaning" - This concept positions Groveport as a recreation-first community where active living, connection, and family entertainment are woven into the city fabric with a fresh, energetic, and optimistic aesthetic. 3. "Right Next Door: Closer Than You Think, Cooler Than You Expect" - This concept embodies Groveport's uniquely positioned charm as a small town lifestyle with big city access, highlighting it as surprisingly vibrant, comfortably familiar, and just minutes from metropolitan energy. Each option was illustrated with mood boards and example videos to demonstrate the potential tone and approach. The team emphasized that while all three directions authentically represent Groveport, they wanted council to help determine which direction would best differentiate Groveport from neighboring communities. Council members provided feedback on the concepts, with several expressing difficulty in choosing just one direction as they felt all three captured important aspects of Groveport. Mr. Dildine favored "Recreation Reimagined," noting that nothing says more about a vibrant town than seeing people out doing things. He highlighted opportunities to better utilize and showcase the city's parks, athletic fields, and other recreational assets. Several members discussed how Groveport's existing recreation infrastructure, including the rec center, golf course, and parks, could be better promoted and utilized. Council members also discussed broader community issues, including challenges in bringing together different neighborhoods within Groveport and the need to better communicate city services and events. They noted the importance of involving local businesses in creating activities and events that would enhance community vibrancy. The Choptank team explained that they would take all feedback received, including input from the upcoming CIC meeting on Wednesday, to refine their recommendation. They would return to the July 14th council meeting to present their recommendation for the rebranding direction. This would not include fully developed logos and colors at that stage, but rather a more refined strategic direction. After council approval, they would move into the creative architecture phase where specific visual elements would be developed.
