FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION MEETING –Minutes Village of Hales Corners, WI June 17, 2025 5635 S. New Berlin Road President Schwartz called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. 1.0 Roll Call – Present: President Schwartz, Commissioners; Dzick, Mixon, Smyczek and Trustee Liaison Riemer. Staff Present: Police Chief Cera, Fire Chief Jaskulski, Police Lieutenant Henner. Audience present: Village Trustee Bennett. 2.0 Approval of Minutes 2.1 April 15, 2025 – Motion (Smyczek/Dzick) to approve. Motion passed 4-0-1 2.2 May 7, 2025 – Motion (Dzick/Smyczek) to approve. Motion passed 4-0-1 3.0 General Business 3.1 Chiefs’ Reports 3.1.1 Police Department Report – Cera had no additional comments. 3.1.2 Fire Department Report – Jaskulski highlighted the amount of turnover but explained it hasn’t reduced staffing and assured it will not impact paramedic status. Advised that an appointment of a full-time position would have to be made prior to the next regular meeting. 3.2 Succession Planning 3.2.1 Police Chief Promotional Process Interview Date – Cera advised a conflict arose with the tentative date. The commission suggested November 8th as a preferred alternative. Cera will check into availability of the candidates for that date and if unavailable will compile a list of available dates for the Commission to choose from. 3.2.2 Fire Chief Promotional Process Timeline – Jaskulski stated start in January. 3.3 Election of Commission Officers 3.3.1 Secretary – Opened for nominations. Dzick volunteered. A motion was made (Smyczek/Mixon) to appoint Dzick as Secretary until the next regular election of officers. Motion passed 4-0-1. 4.0 Next: Date, Time and Location of next Fire & Police Commission meeting – The next regular meeting: Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 6:30 PM.
