FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION MEETING –Minutes Village of Hales Corners, WI
September 16, 2025 5635 S. New Berlin Road
President Schwartz called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.
1.0 Roll Call – Present: President Schwartz, Commissioners; Dzick, Mixon, Smyczek and Trustee
Liaison Riemer. Staff Present: Police Chief Cera, Fire Chief Jaskulski and Fire Captain Gardner.
Audience present: Village President Besson and Trustee Bennett.
2.0 Approval of Minutes
2.1 July 15, 2025 – Motion (Smyczek/Dzick) to approve. Motion passed 4-0-1
3.0 General Business
3.1 Chiefs’ Reports
3.1.1 Police Department Report – Cera advised there is the possibility of a police officer
appointment request near the end of October or beginning of November.
3.1.2 Fire Department Report – Jaskulski presented and answered questions pertaining to
Paramedic training.
3.2 Succession Planning
3.2.1 Fire Chief Promotional Process Timeline – Jaskulski restated again to start in January.
Dzick recommended meeting on a date to be determined in January to begin formulating
interview questions. Commission concurred.
4.0 Scheduling
4.1 Police Chief Oral Interview Panel – Still scheduled for November 8th, 2025 at the Village Hall
in the Board Room. Candidates can choose between a 9:00 or 10:00 AM time slot.
4.2 Set: Date, Time and Location of next regular meeting - Meeting date set for Tuesday,
December 16, 2025 at 6:30 PM in the Village Hall Board Room.
5.0 Adjournment - Motion (Smyczek/Mixon) to adjourn at 7:11 PM. Motion passed 4-0-1.
