HDC Joint Meeting Minutes

Action Items
Item 1: Welcome and Agenda Review
Latiesha Handie, Executive Director, welcomed commissioners and guests to the last
session of Hampton Diversity College, where participants had the opportunity to
learn about the personal experiences of the panelist who identify as lesbian, gay,
bisexual, or transgender in their local community and broader society.
Participants were asked to introduce themselves before beginning the facilitated
discussion, narrated by Past President, Fawn Faulks of Hampton Roads Pride.
New Business
Item 1: Purpose of Participation
Commissioners were asked to participate in the HDC LGBTQ Awareness session in
conjunction with their monthly meetings to increase knowledge and understanding
of specific diverse topics.
Joint discussion opportunities will be an ongoing initiative to help inform and
educate commissioners about the range of events and programs hosted by CUC.

Announcements
Next Meeting Date: Commissioners received notification that the next meeting
will be hosted on November 14, 2019, at Northampton Community Center, 1435-A
Todds Lane, Hampton VA 23666.
Latiesha Handie shared that CUC is hosting a World Religion conversation in
partnership with the Baha'is of the Virginia Peninsula on October 21, 2019, at
Northampton Community Center from 6 pm – 8 pm. She encouraged all
commissioners to be a part of the conversation and to share the opportunity with
others.

Item 1: Commissioners to participate in a session of Hampton Diversity College Level II
for training purposes.
Training topic: LGBTQ Awareness
A panel discussion from individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or
transgender. Participants will have the opportunity to learn ab out the personal
experiences of panelists in their local community and in broader society.
