Hampton Senior Citizen Advisory Committee October 1, 2018 Hampton Senior Center Members Present: Yvonne Gaynor, Carol Perenzin, Martha Clark, Doris Farmer, George Gwynn, JR., Martha Johnson, Ingrid Kirschmann, Peggy Marshburn, Christine Evans Agency Representatives: Alison Eubank, Placemaking Planner, Sean Clark and Gloria Jones, Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services, Barbara Stewart Department of Social Services, Ms. Sierra Peninsula Agency on Aging Y. Gaynor called the meeting to order at 10:00 am and called the roll. Sean Clark read the minutes from the September 10th SCAC meeting and a motion was made to accept the minutes by Carol Perenzin as read and the motion was 2nd by Doris Farmer. Minutes was accepted and minutes will be corrected. Old Business: Sub Committee reports were provide. Sandy provided the residential association report. The committee met at St. Clair Commons with the residential manager to establish a meet and greet with the residents on November 13th. They plan to work with several other residential facilities to provide helpful information while enlighten citizens on what SCAC does. Gloria provide a brief report for the Town Hall committee. They are currently considering the month of June as a potential target month for the town hall. Senior Living Master Plan Yvonne provided an update for the awards committee. Cynthia & Gloria made an appearance on the Round Robin where they promoted the SCAC’s purpose, mission and the upcoming awards event. Yvonne encouraged lead agencies to continue to provide assistance with the gift bags and for all in attendance to make nominations for the awards event. New Business: Agency Reports: Barbara Stewart provided the agency report for Department of Social Services. During the approaching hurricane their department was busy relocating senior residents in shelters and specified nursing homes or beds. This was a huge undertaking that took a tremendous amount of coordination to ensure residents were provided with a high level of service. Mrs. Sierra reported on Peninsula Taskforce on Aging. On November 15 from 4-6p the “Soup for the Caregivers Soul” event. Care givers can be nominated on line at pentfa.org and those who plan on attending need to RSVP. Gloria jones stated that during the months of October, November and December the Senior Center will be hosting Breakfast Bingo, Fall Festival, Mad Hatters Tea, Holiday Fashion Show and the December shopping trip. All information can be found on the centers “At a Glance” advertisement flyer. Carol Perenzin provided reports from the Peninsula Legislative Summit and the Senior Expo where she represented SCAC, provided information on what the committee provides and encouraged citizens to attend the monthly meeting.
