PENINSULA STADIUM AUTHORITY Minutes from October 2, 2017 The meeting was called to order by Jim Wilson, Chair. Others in attendance included: Frank Feagan, Wayne Gomes, Kevin Myers, Ruth Simmons, Brenda Stokes, Pat Uribes, and Lola Perkins from the City Attorney's Office sitting in for Everett Bensten from the board as well as Henry Morgan, Hank Morgan, and Jeffrey Scott from Community Baseball. Everett Bensten, Assistant City Attorney, has left his position. Minutes were approved with one correction. Jim requested insurance reimbursement from the City. We have received the check for the insurance and our annual allocation. The Treasurer's report was accepted as sent to us by Sallie Marchello. A meeting was held with city officials, architects, and subcontractors. An independent consultant estimates our proposed building will cost approximately $2,000,000. Bids should go out soon. A meeting needs to be set with Mary Bunting and Public Works about our next $600,000. The new building will make what we consider an important statement with the new entrance, handicapped accessible restrooms, etc. Our cap on capital improvements is $3,600,000 and yearly allocation is $600.000. We need to look at outside sources for revenue as we still need to work on drainage, locker rooms, etc. We may get some help from the City on the site, lights on Pembroke, etc. Lola will check on the possibility of naming rights. Jim has asked Public Utilities to work on drainage outside the stadium. Jeffrey called about getting work done on the fence. One company has gotten a price estimate to us. Jeffrey said that the doors for the restrooms are in and should be put up in the next two weeks. Replacement seats for the stadium have been ordered. Twenty-four high school teams were in for a showcase tournament this past weekend. There will be more tournaments on October 21st and 28th. We need to continue to look at our money as the pilings for the new building will add a large amount to the cost. We cannot do parking or lights with our current allocation. A new sewer layout has also been proposed. Jim envisions doing the building and then the site work with drainage. The City will review all bids. A suggestion was made to look at pavers for fundraising. The pavers could be used with the new building. Henry will meet with staff from the Hampton History Museum on October 10th. He hopes to help them with funding through their help on the stadium history. He hopes to use the Daily Press archives and the History Museum for historical information. The announcement was made that former Pilots player Dek McGuire has moved up. The next meeting will be November 6, 2017.
