Council Retreat
1. Call Meeting to Order
At 8:35 a.m. the meeting was called to order.
Mayor Deanna Reed, Vice Mayor Laura Dent, Council Member Christopher Jones,
Council Member Monica Robinson and Council Member Monica Richards were
present. Also present were Ande Banks, city manager; Amy Snider, interim deputy
city manager; Chris Brown, city attorney; Michael Parks, director of Communications;
and Pamela Ulmer, city clerk.
2. Welcome / Session Overview / Local Elected Leadership Model
Tyler St. Clair, meeting facilitator, reviewed the agenda, the schedule, the purpose of
the retreat, the goals, the roles, and the Local Elected Leadership Model.
3. Setting the climate for the Session
4. Assessment: Explore Council Perspectives on Strategic Issues
Ms. St. Clair reviewed the work and timeline that went into developing the initial
vision, priorities and strategies.
Council Members and staff worked in two groups to review what goals, strategies,
assets, projects, relationships, and behaviors they wanted to keep or change in order
to lead the City toward the desired future.
5. Visioning: Agree on City Council's Core Vision and Strategic Focus Area
6. Identify Agenda / Assignments for Day Two
Council and staff reviewed the keeps and changes discussed in both groups, there
were quite a few similarities between the groups in both categories.
Council Members reviewed the vision and were given homework to independently
make edits to the vision as they would like it to look.
