Call To Order A meeting of Harrisonburg Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission was held on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 5pm at Ralph Sampson Park. Kevin Gibson called the meeting to order with the following commission members present: Sandra Bopp, MuAwia DaMes, Chance Ebersold, Kevin Gibson, Obie Hill, James Logan, Deanna Reed and Carol Mills-Rooker. Present from Parks and Recreation: Luanne Santangelo, Brian Mancini, Scott Erickson and Stephanie Howard. I Welcome - Kevin Gibson welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 5:06 p.m. II. Approval of March Meeting Minutes- Chance Ebersold motioned to approve the minutes. MuAwia DaMes seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of approval. III, Staff provided and update on the current improvements being made at Ralph Sampson Park and the Lucy F. Simms Education Center. The conversation then centered on the addition of a splash pad/pool at Ralph Sampson Park. Carol Mills-Rooker, will draft, for discussion at the May meeting, an official statement to prioritize and support funding and construction of a splashpad and/or pool at Ralph Sampson Park. Members of the public were in attendance to voice concerns over the Ralph Sampson Park master plan and previous removal of the pool, but they were reminded of meeting protocols which prohibit public comment regarding matters on the agenda. IV. Director’s Report -Luanne Santangelo provided a written report to Advisory Commission members. V. Event Attendance & Advocacy Opportunities - No current events. Brian Mancini reminded the Board of the Department soccer program being held at Smithland Athletic Complex and invited members to attend. VI. General Public Comments - Mr. Dan Castle, President of Rock Town Disc Golf requested reconsideration of the disc golf course at Ramblewood Park. Mr. Mancini offered to coordinate a site visit. Mr. Aaron Hewitt commented on the additional disc golf course and how this activity attracts use by kids and families. VII. Next PRAC Meeting - May 17, 2021 at 7pm. VIII.
