Simms Continuing Education Center 1. Meeting Called To Order A meeting of the Harrisonburg Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission was held on Monday, September 20, 2021 at 7 p.m. at the Lucy F. Simms Continuing Education Center. Kevin Gibson called the meeting to order with the following commission members present: Sandra Bopp, MuAwia DaMes, Kevin Gibson, Deanna Reed, Obie Hill, and Carol Mills-Rooker. Present from Parks and Recreation: Brian Mancini, Connie Lawson, Scott Erickson, Erik Dart, AJ Morris, Michelle Bush, and Matt Muterspaugh. I Welcome - Kevin Gibson welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. II. Approval of August Meeting Minutes- Obie Hill motioned to approve the minutes. Deanna Reed seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of approving the August 16, 2021 minutes. III. Introduction of New Staff Members- Brian Mancini introduced Michelle Bush, the new Community Activities Center Supervisor. IV, Director’s Report-Brian Mancini gave a verbal director’s report. . V. Action Items a.) Upcoming Events-The Commission was invited to attend upcoming football games at the new Football complex at Smithland and was reminded of the Race to Beat Breast Cancer Walk/Run/Golf on Saturday October 16, 2021. b.) Athletics Division Report-Erik Dart gave a presentation on the changes that have been made within the Athletics Division, highlighting the upgrades to facilities, new team uniforms and variety of programs offered. VI. General Public Comments - Mr. Bopp inquired about the possibility of a chess league. VIII. Next PRAC Meeting - The next meeting will be held at the Lucy F.
