JULY 2, 2019
The Town Board of the Town of Hempstead, New York, met at the Town Meeting Pavilion,
Hempstead Town Hall, 1 Washington Street, Hempstead, New York, on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at
10:30A.M.

The Town Board honored and gave citations to Town of Hempstead high school students who embody
what it means to be extraordinary. Each year Newsday receives nominations from principals, teachers
and guidance counselors throughout Nassau and Suffolk highlighting students who go above and
beyond in pursuit of personal excellence and the greater good. This year seven students were chosen to
be featured in "Newsday's Extraordinary Seniors" edition. The four students who were in attendance
today: Angelina Gatt of Division High School; Michael Lawes of Elmont High School; Sabera Hossain
of East Meadow High School and Manny Abreu of Kellenberg Memorial High School, were
congratulated for their noble aspirations and commitment to their education and community.
Supervisor Gillen asked Councilman Blakeman to lead the assemblage in the Pledge of Allegiance to
our flag.
Supervisor Gillen asked everyone to remain standing for a moment of silence for Detective Luis
Alvarez, a first responder at 9/11 and a passionate advocate of the rights of first responders to receive
treatment. Councilman D'Esposito and Councilman Dunne both spoke a few words of
commemoration.
