The minutes of October 22, 2018 were presented for approval. Motion to approve the
minutes was made by Carl Baessler, seconded by Kurt Langiahr. Approved
unanimously. Larry Hoppenhauer proceeded to inform all, the format for tonight’s
meeting.
Mayor Edwin Fare, of Valley Stream, welcomed us all to the Village Hall. He spoke
of the letter he wrote to the Port Authority and co-signed by four other mayors
regarding the impact of runway 13L/13R renovations on their communities. They
requested clarification on issues they presented in the letter (see attached). He
spoke of his history dealing with aircraft noise from JFK, and his former service as a
representative on TVASNAC for Valley Stream. He also spoke of the public meeting
hosted by the FAA, regarding the Redevelopment of JFK Airport at the VFW Hall in
Valley Stream, Oct. 24th. He was disappointed that the people gathered were not
able to ask many of the questions they had.
Meetings Report: Larry Hoppenhauer proceeded to report on the following meetings
he attended.
• JFK Redevelopment Program – Port Authority hosted a Public Meeting on
Oct. 24th, at Valley Stream VFW. Organizers of this meeting were, US
Representative Gregory Meeks, NYS Senator Todd Kaminsky, NYS
Assemblywoman Michelle Solages. Also, in attendance were NYS
Assemblyman Brian Curran, Justin Bernback, Director of Government and

Community Relations, and Carl Baessler, Atlantic Beach TVASNAC Representative.
Hoppenhauer spoke of the very late notice of the meeting. He and many of the
large crowd had only found out the night before the meeting. He sought clarification
of who was responsible for the public not having enough notice but received little
satisfaction. The moderator of the Q & A session made it clear that only questions
relating to the Redevelopment Program, as presented, would be addressed. Do to
this major miscommunication about the meeting, more than half the crowd left after
the first question was addressed.
• JFK Airport Committee’s (JFKAC), Operations Sub-Committee and Executive
Committee met with the Acting General Manager of JFK and his direct reports on
Oct. 24, 2018, at the Port Authority Building at JFK. Mr. Charles Everett is the
Acting General Manager of JFK and Deputy Director of Aviation for the Port
Authority. They each explained what they are responsible for. They have instituted
a new Emergency Operations center to alleviate the problems held last year during
a major snow storm that severely impacted JFK operations and thousands of
passengers.
• North Fork Helicopter Route – The FAA held a Public Meeting at the Cradle of
Aviation Museum on Nov. 13th. In keeping with an amendment made to the FAA
Reauthorization Budget of 2018, evaluation of this helicopter route needed to be
accomplished in a short time-frame. There were posters showing the route and FAA
representatives available for questions (see attached). Written comments were
accepted and would be online or by mail until Jan. 1st, 2019. Four public meetings
were being held. Many of these helicopters cut across northern Nassau County as
they fly this route. Also, many helicopters departing from NYC fly north to south
over western Nassau County to go the South Shore route, then fly along the
southern coast of the Town of Hempstead.
• JFK Airport Committee Meeting – the next meeting will be Wednesday, Dec. 5th,
2018, 7:00 PM, at the Port Authority Administration Building, #14, JFK Airport.
TVASNAC PowerPoint Presentation:
• Mr. Hoppenhauer ran through the presentation to share with the audience the
history, accomplishments and challenges for the future of TVASNAC
• A Question and Answer session followed with all participating
December TVASNAC Meeting
• A motion was made to cancel the December meeting in keeping with tradition and
the fact that the fourth Monday would be Dec. 24 th.
• Motion passed unanimously.
The next regularly scheduled TVASNAC meeting will be held on
Monday, January 28, 2019 at 7:00 PM.
