CITY OF HENDERSON COMMEMORATIVE BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION MINUTES November 18, 2014 I. CALL TO ORDER Acting Chairperson Rosa Herwick called the Commemorative Beautification Commission Meeting to order at 6:03 p.m., at 105 W. Basic Road, in the Parks and Recreation Administrative Office Conference Room. II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL Present: Rosa Herwick Debra Jacobson Jennifer Lewis Kapua Maruyama Absent: Chairman John Casanova Ed Long (resigned) Denise Olsen (excused) Staff: Doug Guild, Parks Superintendent Monica Rivera, Recording Secretary III. PUBLIC COMMENT No comments were presented by the public. IV. ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA (Motion) Ms. Lewis introduced a motion to accept the agenda as presented, seconded by Ms. Jacobson. NEW BUSINESS 1 MINUTES OCTOBER 14, 2014 PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Adopt the minutes of October 14, 2014 meeting. (Motion) Ms. Lewis introduced a motion to approve the minutes of October 14, 2014, as presented, seconded by Mr. Maruyama. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Acting Chairperson Herwick declared the motion carried. 2 STAFF REPORTS PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Staff representative will provide information on the Commission Budget, Urban Forestry Report, Clean-up Trailer Program, Banners and Flags, Arbor Day Sponsorship and Staff Announcements. Doug Guild, Parks Superintendent, distributed the CBC budget that referenced one expense of $30.75 for a polo shirt. Regarding the Urban Forestry Report, “Make a Difference Day” was held on October 25, 2014 at Silver Springs Recreation Center. The event had a great turnout of 150 people, which averaged a total of 450 hours of community service for our city. Mr. Guild reported that the Cleanup trailer had three reservations scheduled: October 28, Friends of Project Green and Pittman Wash cleanup; October 25, “Make a Difference Day”; and November 15, Planting and cleanup at the Bird Viewing Preserve. Mr. Guild reported that two parks were opened in the Inspirada community: Potenza (5 acres) and Capriola (13 acres). Both of the parks combined give the Parks Maintenance division of the city an additional 18 acres to maintain. Also, four parks are currently under construction: Boulder Creek Park (6 acres), McCullough Vista Park (6 acres), Paradise Point Park (5.5 acres), and Inspirada F sports complex (21 acres). Commemorative Beautification Commission Page 3 of 4 November 18, 2014 – Minutes 3 HOLIDAY DECORATING CONTEST PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Vote on funds for food expenses for the Holiday Decorating Contest tour. Doug Guild, Parks Superintendent, reported that staff is requesting up to $200.00 for the dinners for the holiday decorating contest tour. (Motion) Ms. Jacobson introduced a motion to approve an amount of $200.00 for the holiday decorating contest tour dinners, seconded by Ms. Lewis. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Acting Chairperson Herwick declared the motion carried. 4 CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING PROGRAM PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Vote on funds for Christmas Tree Recycling Program. Staff reported that the Christmas Tree Recycling Program is December 26, 2014 thru January 15, 2015. The Public Works, Parks and Recreation staff is requesting up to $4,000.00 to provide temporary fencing at seven drop locations in the parks. (Motion) Mr. Maruyama introduced a motion to approve an amount not to exceed $4,000.00 to support the Christmas Tree Recycling Program, seconded by Ms. Lewis. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Acting Chairperson Herwick declared the motion carried. 5 COMMUNITY PRIDE PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Discuss and approve Community Pride Award nominations. Staff reported that no nominations were submitted for the Community Pride Award. 6 VOLUNTEER HOURS PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Commission members report the number of volunteer hours they completed for the month. VI. CHAIRMAN\MEMBER COMMENTS No comments were presented by the members. VII. SET NEXT MEETING The next meeting was scheduled for December 8, 2014, at 5:30 p.m., in the Parks and Recreation Administration Building. VIII. PUBLIC COMMENT No comments were presented by the public. IX.
