CITY OF HENDERSON COMMEMORATIVE BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION MINUTES REGULAR MEETING Tuesday, September 12, 2017 I. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Turcaz called the Commemorative Beautification Commission to order at 6:15 p.m. at 105 W. Basic Road in the Facilities Management Conference Room. II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL Joanne Wershba, Recording Secretary, confirmed the Commemorative Beautification Commission had been noticed in compliance with the Open Meeting Law by posting the Agenda three working days prior to the meeting at the Facilities Management Building, City Hall, the Multigenerational Center, the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, Fire Station No. 86, the Nevada Public Notice Website, the City of Henderson Website, and by emailing a copy of the Agenda to everyone appearing thereon on the Agenda Master Mailing List. PUBLIC COMMENT There were no public comments presented. IV. ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA (Motion) Ms. Jacobson introduced a motion to accept the agenda as presented. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chairman Turcaz declared the motion carried. V. UNFINISHED BUSINESS UB-1 HOLIDAY LIGHTING PROGRAM PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION RECOMMENDATION: Approve Commission members will discuss and vote on options for replacing the Holiday Lighting Program with different events. The Commission members discussed changing the holiday program from a holiday light contest to a decoration contest with the businesses on Water Street. The contest would coincide with Winterfest, December 8, 2017, and would help draw people to downtown Henderson. Additional discussion ensued regarding how the voting/judging will take place as well as ways to advertise for the event. The name/theme that was suggested was Water Street Wonderland. (Motion) Ms. Jacobson introduced a motion to replace the Holiday Lighting Program with a holiday decoration contest with the businesses on Water Street, to coincide with Winterfest, December 8, 2017. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chairman Turcaz declared the motion carried. VI. NEW BUSINESS NB-2 MINUTES COMMEMORATIVE BEAUTIFICATION COMMISSION MAY 15, 2017 PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Commemorative Beautification Commission Page 3 of 4 Tuesday, September 12, 2017 – Minutes Commemorative Beautification Commission minutes of May 15, 2017. (Motion) Ms. Denney introduced a motion to adopt the Commemorative Beautification Commission minutes of May 15, 2017, as presented. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chairman Turcaz declared the motion carried. NB-3 STAFF REPORTS PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Staff Representative will provide information on the Commission budget, Municipal Forestry report, Clean-Up Trailer program, banners, flags and staff announcements. Preston Goodman, Staff Liaison, briefly reviewed the Commission Budget, and gave updates on the following items:  Municipal Forestry Report  Clean-Up Trailer Program  Banners and flags  Staff announcements. NB-4 COMMUNITY PRIDE PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION RECOMMENDATION: Approve Commission members will discuss and approve any Community Pride Award nominations. Chairman Turcaz explained how nominations are received for the Community Pride Award and the awards made. There were no submissions made at this time. VII. CHAIRMAN\MEMBER COMMENTS There were no comments presented. VIII. SET NEXT MEETING The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. IX.
