September 14, 2017
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Brooks called the meeting to order at 4:31 p.m., at the City of Henderson, City
Hall Annex Conference Room, 280 S. Water Street, Henderson, Nevada 89015.
II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL
The Board Secretary confirmed the Commission on Tourism Meeting had been noticed
in compliance with the Open Meeting Law by posting the Agenda three working days
prior to the meeting at City Hall, the Multigenerational Center, the Whitney Ranch
Recreation Center, Fire Station No. 86, the Nevada Public Notice Website, the City of
Henderson Website, and by emailing a copy of the Agenda to everyone appearing
thereon on the Agenda Master Mailing List.

IV. ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA (For Possible Action)
The Commissioners reviewed the Agenda as presented.
(MOTION)
Ms. Maynard introduced a motion to accept the agenda as presented. The vote favoring
approval was unanimous. Chairman Brooks declared the motion carried.

RECOMMENDATION: Adopt
Adopt minutes from June 8, 2017, Commission on Tourism meeting.
(MOTION)
Mr. Mealiffe introduced a motion to adopt the minutes as presented. The vote favoring
approval was unanimous. Chairman Brooks declared the motion carried.
NB-2 ETHEL M PRESENTATION
Economic Development & Tourism
Mr. Oren Young, General Manager of Ethel M, provided an overview of their recent
changes and renovations. Mr. Young noted they renovated the public portion of the
facility, which includes a self-guided tour display and a tasting room. They are also
planning an expansion of the Cactus Garden in the future and plan to host more events
such as weddings. They have also remodeled their retail stores located at the airport.
Mr. Young also noted they are developing new packaging and new products.
Mr. Young stated that tour buses are a lifeline to Ethel M and any opportunity to partner
with Economic Development & Tourism and our hotel partners is welcomed.
NB-3 TOURISM UPDATE

Ms. Mallari provided an update on recent and upcoming tourism events in Henderson.
CraftHaus Brewery is hosting a “Fruit Splosion Fest” on September 16. The
event includes several guest breweries featuring 32 beers. They are partnering
with Sunset Station and Fiesta Station for special room rates.
The Wild West Bass Lucas Oil Western Classic was held September 7—9 and
brought nearly 700 room nights to Henderson. The event included a meet and
greet at the Henderson Events Plaza and the welcome dinner was held at the
Convention Center.
The 9th Annual Rose Regatta festival will be held at Lake Las Vegas on October
14. Staff is working with our local hotel partners to offer room blocks for the
event.
On October 14, the Aki Matsuri Japanese Festival will be held at the Henderson
Events Plaza. This is the 2nd year the event will be hosted in Henderson and
last year drew over 5,000 attendees.
The Ghost Tree Invitational golf event will be held at Reflection Bay on October
27 and includes a culinary event on October 28.

Tough Mudder is returning to Lake Las Vegas for the 4th consecutive year. The
event will be held on October 28 and 29 followed by the World’s Toughest
Mudder on November 11 and 12.
The Las Vegas Challenge disc golf championship will be held at the Wildhorse
Golf Club February 22-25, 2018.
NB-4 MARKETING PROCESS UPDATE
Economic Development & Tourism
Ms. Coffee reported that the City issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for an Economic
Development marketing plan on July 13, 2017. An evaluation team reviewed the ten
proposals that were received and conducted interviews with the two highest ranking
firms. The firm which is selected will develop new branding and positioning statements
relative to business attraction and tourism. The City anticipates having a
recommendation to City Council at their October 3 meeting.

There were no Chairman/member comments.
VII. SET NEXT MEETING
The next meeting was set for Thursday, December 14, 2017, at 4:30 p.m.

There being no further business to come before the Commission, Chairman Brooks
adjourned the meeting at 5:19 p.m.
