CITY OF HENDERSON PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, September 6, 2017 I. CALL TO ORDER The meeting of the Parks and Recreation Board was called to order by Chairman Jim Perkins at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers Conference Room, 240 Water Street, Henderson, Nevada. II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL Paula Harris, Recording Secretary, confirmed the Parks and Recreation Board had been noticed in compliance with the Open Meeting Law by posting the agenda three working days prior to the meeting at City Hall, the Multigenerational Center, the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, Fire Station No. 86, the Nevada Public Notice Website, the City of Henderson Website, and by mailing a copy of the agenda to everyone appearing thereon on the Agenda Master Mailing List. PUBLIC COMMENT There were no public comments presented. IV. ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA (For Possible Action) (Motion) Michelle Nelson introduced a motion to accept the agenda as presented. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chairman Perkins declared the motion carried. V. NEW BUSINESS NB-1 MINUTES PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD AUGUST 2,2017 PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Parks and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes of August 2, 2017. (Motion) Dallas Holmes introduced a motion to adopt the minutes of August 2, 2017, as presented. The vote favoring approval was unanimous. Chairman Perkins declared the motion carried. NB-2 PARKS DAMAGE REPORT PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Doug Guild, Parks Superintendent, will provide a report on the most recent damage to parks and cost to the City to repair. Doug Guild, Parks Superintendent, reported on the damage of graffiti totaling $650 at Cornerstone Park this past month. Flood damage also occurred at Hidden Falls Park. The dog area was completely flooded out and 13 hours in staff time was needed for repair. NB-3 UNION VILLAGE PARK UPDATE PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Amie Wojtech, Park Planning Manager, will give an update on the Union Village Park plan and updated conceptual drawing. Parks and Recreation Board Page 3 of 4 Wednesday, September 6, 2017 – Minutes Amie Wojtech, Park Planning Manager, provided an updated conceptual drawing of the Union Village Park. The drawing showed the new location for the dog park area, shade structures, plus other amenities. Chairman Perkins opened public comment. Michelle Romero, representing Union Village, informed the members that bids for the construction of this park should go out next week. Construction will start after the bid is awarded. NB-4 PARKS BOARD TOUR PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Members will discuss the park locations they would like to tour in the upcoming planned park tour. Doug Guild, Parks Superintendent, reviewed a list of possible parks for the board tour in October. Members agreed on touring the following parks on October 14, 2017: O’Callaghan Dog Park, Black Mountain Pickleball courts, Desert Pulse Park site, Union Village Park site, Whitney Mesa Park, Arroyo Grande Sports Complex, Esselmont Park Phase 2, Aventura Park and Capriola Park. NB-5 STAFF REPORT PUBLIC WORKS, PARKS AND RECREATION Announcement of upcoming grand openings, ground breakings, special events, awards and/or programs. Doug Guild, Parks Superintendent, reported upcoming “March On” events hosted by Mayor Debra March. September 21st the event will be at Heritage Senior Center and on October 10th will be at Cornerstone Park. Adam Blackmore, Recreation Superintendent, reported on the upcoming events at the Pavilion: Hairball, September 8th at 7:30 p.m., Green Sky Blue Grass on September 15th, Henderson Symphony on September 16th, and Get the Lead Out on October 7th. Wilson Phillips will be also at the Pavilion on October 13th. Adam Blackmore, Recreation Superintendent, reported that the first “Last Friday” event held on August 25th was attended by approximately 6,000 people. The next event is scheduled for September 22nd. CHAIRMAN\MEMBER COMMENTS Chairman Jim Perkins commented on the completion of Foxridge Park and what a great job was done. Doug Perns commented on how his son will be representing the City of Henderson by being a band member with the Ohio State Marching Band. VII. SET NEXT MEETING The next meeting was set for October 4, 2017. VIII. PUBLIC COMMENT There were no public comments presented. IX.
