I. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Jim Perkins called the meeting of the Parks and Recreation Board to
order at 5:00 p.m. in the Westgate Conference Room, 240 South Water Street,
Henderson, Nevada 89015.
II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL
Karie Teruya, Executive Administrative Assistant, confirmed the
Parks and Recreation Board meeting had been noticed in compliance with the
Nevada Open Meeting Law.

IV. ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA (For Possible Action)
(Motion)
Member Michelle Nelson introduced a motion to accept the agenda, as
presented. The roll call vote favoring passage was unanimous.
Chair Jim Perkins declared the motion carried.

Parks and Recreation Board Meeting minutes of October 5, 2022.
(Motion)
Member Ali Nilson introduced a motion to adopt the Parks and Recreation Board
Meeting minutes of October 5, 2022, as presented. The roll call vote favoring
passage was unanimous. Chair Jim Perkins declared the motion carried.
2 PICKLEBALL UPDATE
PARKS AND RECREATION
Amie Wojtech, Park Project Manager, will provide information on current and
future pickleball courts in the City of Henderson.
Amie Wojtech, Park Project Manager, displayed a map showing the pickleball
courts located throughout Henderson and presented a summary of this item.
Following the inquiry of Chair Perkins regarding how many pickleball courts will
the future Chicken and Pickle facility house, Shari Ferguson, Director of Parks
and Recreation, said she believes the location will have approximately six
indoor courts and eight outdoor courts.
A brief discussion ensued regarding how the City plans on keeping up with the
demand and popularity of pickleball around the community.

PARKS AND RECREATION
Lisa Tovar, Parks and Recreation Manager, will introduce herself to the Board.
Shari Ferguson, Director of Parks and Recreation, said the City’s Parks and
Recreation Department has had some recent movement in their staffing, which
has included the promotion of two new managers.
Lisa Tovar, Parks and Recreation Manager, introduced herself to the Board and
gave a brief overview of her professional background and time in Henderson.

PARKS AND RECREATION
Scott Wade, Parks and Recreation Manager, will introduce himself to the Board.
Scott Wade, Parks and Recreation Manager, introduced himself to the Board
and gave a brief overview of his professional background and time in
Henderson.
Following the request of Chair Perkins, Shari Ferguson, Director of Parks and
Recreation, listed the several other managers that make up the City’s Parks and
Recreation Department’s management team.

PARKS AND RECREATION
City staff will report on upcoming events, grand openings, ground breakings,
special events, awards and/or programs.
Shari Ferguson, Director of Parks and Recreation, presented a summary of this
item and discussed the following upcoming City events:
Union Village’s park groundbreaking event on 11/03/2022
Las Vegas Golden Knights watch party on 11/03/2022
Dia de los Muertos la Celebración 2022 on 11/04/2022
A-Mesa Race on 11/05/2022
Veterans Day Ceremony 2022 on 11/05/2022

A brief discussion ensued regarding the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve and
concerns of the Avian Influenza (bird flu), health, and safety.
Ms. Ferguson informed the Board that the City’s Parks and Recreation annual
report has been released. She provided those in attendance with a copy of the
report, which has been added to the backup materials.
VI. CHAIRMAN\MEMBER COMMENTS
Member John Holman said he visited the new park that recently opened in the
Union Village development, and he was impressed with it.
Member Ali Nilson said she has received many compliments recently on the
City’s Farmers Market’s produce quality, so she wanted to make sure she
passed along the accolades to the attention of City staff.
VII. SET NEXT MEETING
The next meeting was set for Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.
VIII. PUBLIC COMMENT
Brian Vokits, 89121, on behalf of Southern Nevada Pickleball, requested staff to
publish the City’s pickleball plan and map presented under Item 2 of the agenda
to educate players on the available options around town and to communicate
the City’s plan for additional courts moving forward.
Shauna Walch, 89052, introduced herself and said she will have an item to
present to the Board at the next Parks and Recreation Board Meeting.
IX. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the Board, Chair Jim Perkins
adjourned the meeting at 5:25 p.m.

attacks, physical intimidation, threatening use of physical force, assault, battery, or any other
acts intended to impede the meeting or infringe on the rights of the board and/or committee
