Wednesday, November 10, 2021
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Steve Boyce called the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission
meeting to order at 4:03 p.m., at the Heritage Park Senior Facility,
300 South Racetrack Road, Henderson, Nevada 89015.
II. CONFIRMATION OF POSTING AND ROLL CALL
Anthony Rossa, Administrative Assistant III, confirmed the Senior Citizens
Advisory Commission meeting had been noticed in compliance with the
Open Meeting Law.

IV. ACCEPTANCE OF AGENDA (For Possible Action)
Item 2 was heard immediately following Item 3, at the request of staff.
(Motion)
Mr. Berman introduced a motion to accept the agenda, as amended. The vote
favoring approval was unanimous. Chairman Steve Boyce declared the motion
carried.

Senior Citizens Advisory Commission Meeting minutes of October 13, 2021.
(Motion)
Ms. Gerali introduced a motion to adopt the Senior Citizen Advisory
Commission Meeting minutes of October 13, 2021, as presented. The vote
favoring approval was unanimous. Chairman Boyce declared the motion
carried.
2 THE JUST ONE PROJECT
PARKS AND RECREATION
Casey Flair, Chief Operating Officer from The Just One Project, will provide an
overview of services including their new Meals on Wheels Service.
Note: This item was heard immediately following Item 3, at the request of staff.
Casey Flair, Chief Operating Officer, and Tori Lawson-Boffelli,
Program Director, The Just One Project, gave a PowerPoint presentation which
detailed the services they provide to the community.
Following an inquiry from Mr. O’Neil regarding whether The Just One Project
Programs offer a variety of groceries rather than staple pantry items as other
food banks, Ms. Lawson-Boffelli stated that issue has been addressed and their
program is heavily invested in the nutrition value of the food items that they
present to the community.
A brief discussion ensued regarding The Just One Project’s expansion into
Searchlight, Nevada. Mr. O’Neil said he will look into a storage/distribution
center in that area for The Just One Project’s possible use.

A discussion ensued regarding The Just One Project’s funding sources, the
accessibility of the food banks and programs in the Henderson area, their Meals
on Wheels Service, and the location of the Community Market.
Following an inquiry from Ms. Belanger regarding what services are available to
combat homelessness in the community, Mr. Flair said The Just One Project
operates a Rapid Rehousing program, which is through Clark County and
allows them to place homeless individuals into permanent housing.
3 AUTHORIZE PARTICIPATION BY SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY
COMMISSION MEMBERS AT UPCOMING EVENTS FROM
NOVEMBER 10, 2021, TO DECEMBER 31, 2021.
PARKS AND RECREATION
Commission members will discuss and approve whether Commissioners may
officially attend or participate in upcoming community programs or events as a
representative of the Commission for November 10, 2021, to
December 31, 2021.
Corey Clark, Parks and Recreation Manager, presented a summary of this item
and referred to the 2021 Events Calendar for November 10, 2021, to
December 31, 2021.
Following an inquiry from Ms. Gerali regarding online registration for the Fall
into Fitness Move with the Mayor Event on November 30, 2021, Mr. Clark
stated he will provide the Commissioners with an activity code to make it easier
to register online.

Mr. O’Neil introduced a motion to accept the events calendar, as drafted;
approve the allowance of Commissioners to officially attend or participate in
upcoming community programs or events, including AARP events, in
accordance with the Senior Citizens Advisory Commission’s bylaws,
as a representative of the Commission for November 10, 2021, to
December 31, 2021, while wearing their city-issued name badge; interact with
the constituents during the events to elicit information from the community; and
report the event’s feedback back to the Commission. The vote favoring approval
was unanimous. Chairman Boyce declared the motion carried.

4 SENIOR AUXILIARY PRESENTATION
PARKS AND RECREATION
Linda Rauenbeulher, Henderson Seniors' Auxiliary, will give a report on the
activities of the organization.
Linda Rauenbeulher, Henderson Seniors' Auxiliary, presented a summary of
this item, and the Commissioners reviewed the Seniors' Auxiliary Newsletter,
Volume 4, Issue 3, in the backup material.
5 STAFF REPORT
PARKS AND RECREATION
Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, will give an update on recent events
at Heritage Park Senior Facility and the Downtown Senior Center.
Corey Clark, Recreation Services Manager, presented an overview of this item
and stated the Jingle All the Way drive-thru social event on December 15, 2021,
from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Heritage Park Senior Facility will be expanded to
allow a longer driving route. He said there could be an opportunity for the
Commission to be staged and identified along the route. Mr. Clark said the
Jingle All the Way event will be included in next month’s event calendar.
Mr. Clark said Tru Physical Therapy conducts physical therapy appointments in
the fitness room at the Heritage Park Senior Facility. He said Tru Physical
Therapy works with various medical insurance providers and they offer visits for
$25.00 to individuals that do not have physical therapy medical benefits.
Lastly, Mr. Clark reminded the Commissioners to be respectful to speakers and
presenters by limiting side conversations.
VI. CHAIRMAN\MEMBER COMMENTS
Following inquiries from Ms. Gerali regarding the location for the events listed
on the 2021 Events Calendar and how to properly retire a tattered American flag
that is in her possession, Mr. Clark stated, moving forward, the location of the
events will be added to the list, and Ms. Nies said the flag can be taken to
American Legion.
Responding to an inquiry from Ms. Belanger regarding reports to the City
Council from this Commission, Mr. Clark said city staff has been attending the
meetings to discuss various initiatives and encouraged the Commissioners to let
him know if they would like any items added to the agenda.

Ms. Landaker stated Senior Citizens Advisory Commission meetings that begin
in the morning would be beneficial due to many seniors being more active
during the daytime. She also said she would be interested visiting a The Just
One Project facility with the Commissioners. Mr. Clark stated due to scheduling
difficulties, he recommends the Commissioners visit the facilities on their own in
small groups that do not make a quorum.
Mr. Berman said having Senior Citizens Advisory Commission meetings at
varied times throughout the year could accommodate more schedules.
Chairman Boyce said he likes having the 2021 Events Calendar and the
Henderson Seniors' Auxiliary Newsletter incorporated into the agenda and
backup materials.
Mr. Clark asked the Commissioners which meeting room they like the best at
the Heritage Park Senior Facility. Brandon Kemble, Assistant City Attorney III,
suggested a survey be sent to the Commissioners to determine which should be
used to conduct future meetings.
VII. SET NEXT MEETING
The next meeting was set for Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at 4:00 p.m.

There being no further business to discuss, Chairman Boyce adjourned the
meeting at 5:02 p.m.
