MINUTES HOT SPRINGS ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE November 7, 2022 12:00 PM 111 Opera Street, Suite A 1. Roll Call of Committee Members Committee Members present: Dale Blackwelder, Kara Gunter, Alix Stafford, Karen Wiley. Excused: Nan Cameron. Absent: June Simmons and Eli Vega. Staff: Anthony Whittington, Kathleen Fason, Hannah Rice, and Brian Fisher. 2. Approval of the Agenda Alix made a motion to approve the November 7, 2022 agenda. Kara seconded. Motion passed. 3. Approval of the Minutes Alix made a motion to approve the October 11, 2022 minutes. Dale seconded. Motion passed. 4. Introduction of Guests 5. BUSINESS: Karen Wiley shared a little about herself and why she was interested in joining the Arts Advisory Committee, what experience she had, etc. A. Presentation of JWW Wetlands Trailhead Feature Design: Landscape Superintendent Brian Fisher explained that he and Anthony Whittington plan to visit Bennett Brothers to discuss with them the idea of creating a similar water feature as what they designed and constructed near the Farmer’s Market back in 2009. The new fountain would be much bigger and will incorporate wetland animal sculpture into the over project. B. Installation of Lion and Ballerina: Anthony explained that Street Department are aware of the need to install the sculptures and have added it to their future scheduling. C. Tranquility Garden Dedication Plans: Anthony showed committee members the CAR sculpture that has been repaired and powder coated. Kathleen presented the sign and post to the committee and explained that staff would not be able to get to the installation until after Christmas decorations were removed in January next year. That means we are looking at an early spring dedication. D. Public Art Plan for Hot Springs: During a recent interview Amanda Golden with Designing Local, LTD. listened to the city’s presentation of needs and suggested that the city needs a Public Art Plan instead of a "Needs Assessment”. She submitted a quote and Anthony presented it to City Management. E. Grants, Fundraising Suggestions: N/A 6. Arts Advisory Committee comments: 7. Parks & Trails Director comments: 8.
