Police and Fire Commission

POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION Meeting of the Police and Fire Commission was called to order by Chair Young at 2:00 p.m. on January 5, 2026, in the Fire Department Training Room, Fire Department Building. 1. Roll call: Members present: Shannon Young, Paul VanBerkel, Bud Gadow, Beth Jasiak, and Carla Zacharias. Absent Members: Also present: Assistant Police Chief Krueger, Fire Chief Carrel, and HR Director Hodge. 2. Correspondence: None 3. Minutes: Motion by Van Berkel, second by Gadow to suspend the rules and waive the reading of the minutes of December 3, 2025. All members voted aye. Motion carried. 4. General matters: a. Asst. Chief Krueger i. Assistant Chief Sanderfoot retired on January 2, 2026. ii. Lt. Krueger promoted to Assistant Chief. iii. Detective Matt Kohl promoted to Lieutenant Investigator. iv. Three Sergeants retiring, Momberg in February, Treichel in February, and Raether March 1st. v. In the process of appointing new School Resource Officers (SROs) due to internal movements and backfills for promotions. vi. MEG Unit Officer still needs to be replaced due to that Officer being promoted to Sergeant. b. Chief Carrel i. PT Fire Inspector Kevin Kloehn will be starting January 6, 2026. ii. Lonny Ziemer retired January 4, 2026. iii. Emily Seifert is a new Firefighter/Paramedic starting January 19, 2026. iv. Two interns will be starting in January. 5. Adjourn to closed session pursuant to Wis. State Statute 19.85(1)(c) for the purpose of interviewing Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic Candidates: Motion by Gadow, seconded by Van Berkel to adjourn to closed session pursuant to Wis. State Statute 19.85(1)(c) for the purpose of interviewing Police Officer candidates. All members voted aye. Motion carried. Adjourned to closed session at 2:07 p.m.  6. Return to open session for possible action: Motion by Young, seconded by Gadow, to return to open session for possible action. All members voted aye. Motion carried. Returned to open session at 3:00 p.m. Motion by Young, seconded by Gadow to move Matthew Bauman and Gabriel Trevino to the Police Officer eligibility list pursuant to Wis State Statute 62.13. All members voted aye. Motion carried. 7. Adjourn: Motion by Gadow, seconded by VanBerkel to adjourn. All members voted aye. Motion Carried.
