Police and Fire Commission

POLICE AND FIRE COMMISSION Meeting of the Police and Fire Commission was called to order by Chair Young at 2:00 p.m. on March 23, 2026, in the Fire Department Training Room, Fire Department Building. 1. Roll call: Members present: Shannon Young, Paul VanBerkel, Beth Jasiak, and Carla Zacharias. Absent Members: Bud Gadow Also present: Assistant Police Chief Krueger, Police Chief Graff, and Fire Chief Carrel. 2. Correspondence: None 3. Minutes: Motion by Van Berkel, second by Jasiak to suspend the rules and waive the reading of the minutes of January 5, 2026. All members voted aye. Motion carried. 4. General matters: a. Chief Graff i. Police Officer Matt Bauman is in field training and doing well. ii. For 2026 the department is adding a part-time Evidence Technician position to run the evidence room. Bob Momber (recent retiree) applied and will start in May for this position. b. Chief Carrel i. Emily Seifert is a new Firefighter/Paramedic started January 19, 2026. ii. FD still has two full-time openings. Will be reviewing EMT candidates. iii. The EMT students will be finishing medic school in the next two months. iv. Possible interviews will be held from the candidate pool and then interview with next PFC meeting in May 2026. v. Two interns are doing well. vi. Fire Inspector Kloehn is onboard and doing well. 5. Adjourn to closed session pursuant to Wis. State Statute 19.85(1)(c) for the purpose of interviewing Firefighter/EMT/Paramedic Candidates: Motion by Young, seconded by Jasiak to adjourn to closed session pursuant to Wis. State Statute 19.85(1)(c) for the purpose of interviewing Police Officer candidates. All members voted aye. Motion carried. Adjourned to closed session at 2:12 p.m. 6. Return to open session for possible action:  Motion by Young, seconded by Zacharias, to return to open session for possible action. All members voted aye. Motion carried. Returned to open session at 4:12 p.m. Motion by Van Berkel, seconded by Young, to move Jacob Burgess, Hailey Buschman, and Breck Pearson to the Police Officer eligibility list pursuant to Wis State Statute 62.13. All members voted aye. Motion carried. 7. Adjourn: Motion by Young, seconded by VanBerkel to adjourn. All members voted aye. Motion Carried.
