BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
COUNCIL CHAMBERS
JUNE 14, 2022-8:30 A.M.
Roll call was answered by: Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe, Chairman Jim Dazey, and Board Member Don Gura.
Others present were: Dave Lange, Steve Garbacz- KPC, Mark Schultz, Lance Waters, Brian Strange, Dawn
McGahen, Chad McKinley, Scott Mosley, Kevin Walker, Kristen Johnson, and Katie Ritchie.
Pledge of Allegiance
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all in attendance.
Minutes
Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve the Board of Works minutes from the May 24, 2022 meeting
with a second from Mayor Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays.
Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve the Special Board of Works minutes from the May 31, 2022
meeting with a second from Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays.
Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve the Special Board of Works minutes from the June 2, 2022
meeting with a second from Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays.
Petitions
No petitions or comments were given.
Engineering
Substandard Building 211-213 S. Main Street
Building Inspector Dave Lange issued an administrative order to Kevin Walker owner of 211-213 S. Main Street
regarding repairs to the roof and structure, giving him until August 20, 2022 to comply. Mr. Walker asked the
Board for an additional 90 days to comply. Multiple questions were asked to the business owner and through
discussion Mayor Handshoe said she felt that an additional 60 days was sufficient with a new compliance date of
October 20, 2022. Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe made a motion to approve with a second from Board Member Don
Gura. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays.
Drake Road Phase 2 PE- Invoice #14
Administrative Engineer Scott Derby requested authorization to pay pay request #14 in the amount of $11,603.38
($9,282.70 Federal & $2,320.68 Local). Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve with a second from
Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays.
Park
Golf Cart Discussion
Park Director Dawn McGahen said that an anonymous person is donating money for a golf cart for the Sports
Complex. This will allow them to shuttle people who have trouble walking long distances and to also transport
food between concession stands.
Police
Request to Purchase Uniform Shoes
Chief of Police Lance Waters requested authorization to pay invoice m23225 to Brateman’s. This is for a pair of
shoes for the Honor Guard. The money for this will be paid from the LOIT account. Board Member Don Gura
made a motion to approve with a second from Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays.
WWTP
Blower Motor Repair Invoice
Superintendent Mark Schultz requested authorization to pay invoice #0507987 in the amount of $9,484.25 to
Precision Electric, Inc. Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve with a second Mayor SuzAnne
Handshoe. The motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays.
Sewer Adjustment/ VFW
The VFW requested a sewer adjustment in the amount of $375.84 for the property at 127 Veterans Way. WWTP
Employee Trevor Hampshire verified that the leak did not go down a drain and recommended an adjustment be
given. Board Member Don Gura made a motion to approve with a second from Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe. The
motion passed 2 ayes – 0 nays.
The May Activity Report was presented for review.
Motion to Adjourn
Board Member Don Gura made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Chairman Jim Dazey adjourned the meeting at
9:00 A.M.
