COMMON COUNCIL COUNCIL CHAMBERS-CITY HALL MAY 18, 2021 -7:00 P.M. The Common Council of the City of Kendallville met in regular session Tuesday May 18, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. Roll call was answered by: Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe, Council Member Regan Ford, Council Member Corey Boese, Council Member Jim Dazey, Attorney Doug Atz, Council Member Shari Targgart, Council Member Amy Ballard, and MYAC Member Darby Johnson. Others present were: Katie Ritchie, Susan Michaels- 100 S. Main, Kathy Smith- EHK, Brad Graden, Dep Hornberger, Maria Davis, Jill Jolief, Dave Button, Mary Clark, Susan & Bob Crosby, Dawn McGahen, Dean Camerod, Matt Brinkman, Scott Derby, Jim & Carol Pankop, Clint Pankop, Carleigh & Guy Peirson, Rick Kiersey, Jeremy McKinley, and Andy Barrand- KPC. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all in attendance. MINUTES/ MEETING Minutes from the May 4, 2021 Common Council meeting were presented for review. Council Member Jim Dazey made a motion to approve with a second from Council Member Shari Targgart. The motion passed 5 ayes – 0 nays. PETITIONS OR COMMENTS No petitions or comments were given. MAYOR Recognition of Park Director Jim Pankop Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe presented Jim Pankop with a plaque for his years of service to the City of Kendallville as he is retiring after 35 years of employment. Mayor Handshoe also presented Park Director Jim Pankop with a donation check to the Park Department in honor of him and in return Jim asked that she donate that money to Miles for Myeloma. Resolution #1078/ Tax Abatement- Salty Holdings LLC. Council Member Jim Dazey requested the reading of Resolution #1078/ Tax Abatement in its entirety. Attorney Doug Atz read Resolution #1078 in its entirety. Council Member Jim Dazey made a motion to approve with a second from Council Member Regan Ford. The motion passed 5 ayes – 0 nays. The April 7, 2021 Aviation minutes were presented for review. PARK May 10, 2021 Park minutes were presented for review. POLICE The April Police Report was presented for review. NEW BUSINESS General Ordinance #1237/ Longevity Pay- 1st Reading Council Member Jim Dazey requested the reading of General Ordinance #1237/ Longevity Pay in title only. Attorney Doug Atz read General Ordinance #1237 in title only. Council Member Jim Dazey made a motion to approve with a second from Council Member Amy Ballard. Council Member Regan Ford asked the rest of the Council what can be done with the rest of the employees that aren’t under the Police and Fire. Council Member Jim Dazey mentioned that he would like to see the Ordinance amended to read that longevity is not to be capped for all other employees after thirty years of service and will continue on with the duration of completed years worked with the City. The Council agreed as a whole that was good idea. The motion passed 5 ayes – 0 nays. ALLOWENCE OF BILLS AND CLAIMS Council Member Jim Dazey presented bills and claim numbers 68310 through 68426 for $689,092.12 for approval. Council Member Jim Dazey made a motion to approve the bills and claims with a second by Council Member Amy Ballard. The motion passed 5 ayes-0 nays. MOTION TO ADJOURN Council Member Jim Dazey made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Mayor SuzAnne Handshoe adjourned the meeting at 7:19 P.M. ________________________________________________ Kathren R.
