Planning Commission

Village of Kohler Planning Commission November 9, 2023 Chairperson Thomas Schnettler called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. Roll call was taken: Tom Schnettler, Jay Hoekstra, Lee Gumm, Mike Zimmermann, Mike Wandschneider and Thomas Kramer were present. Paul Bonack was absent. Staff members present: Mike Kitzerow and Laurie Lindow. Approval of Meeting Minutes from October 12, 2023 – Motion by Mike Zimmermann, second by Lee Gumm to approve the meeting minutes from October 12, 2023. Motion carried. Public comment – none. Business 1. Recommendation to Village Board for a building permit for Kohler Co. 150 th Anniversary Monument – The 150th anniversary monument will be added to the existing 100th monument and will be located in front of the Main Office of Kohler Co. The new monument will be oriented differently to be parallel to the entrance door. Motion by Lee Gumm, second by Thomas Kramer to recommend Village Board approve building permit for the Kohler Co. 150th Anniversary Monument. Motion carried. 2. Request from Kohler School Friends for a permit for a sign on the school fence for Arts & Craft Show on November 18 – This temporary sign was approved in the past but the logo and signage has changed as well as the proposed location so needs approval by the Plan Commission. The new signage is 8’ long and will be located on the baseball fence at Ebben Field. Motion by Mike Zimmermann, second by Tom Schnettler to approve temporary sign for the Arts & Craft Show on November 18 on the baseball fence at Ebben Field. Motion carried. 3. Request from Michael & Jean Coulson, 508 Pine Tree Road, for a building permit for a new kitchen addition, front door, window and new siding – The small kitchen addition will be at the rear of the house and meets code. Mike Kitzerow recommends approval of the building permit. Motion by Jay Hoekstra, second by Mike Wandschneider to approve building permit for Michael & Jean Coulson for a new kitchen addition. Motion carried. 4. Request from Hannah & Davey Holzer for a building permit for new home on Lot 49 in The Clearings Subdivision – The proposed home meets setbacks and village code and approved by Kohler Co. Residential Review Committee. The driveway approach was changed slightly to not appear to be an extension of Woodlake Road. Motion by Mike Zimmermann, second by Thomas Kramer to approve a building permit for Hannah & Davey Holzer for a new home on Lot 49 in The Clearings subdivision. Motion carried. Motion carried.  5. Request from Kohler Co. for a building permit to install wood privacy fence between residents on Briarwood Court and the Shops at Woodlake – The wood privacy fence will provide screening to the residents of Briarwood Court following taking down of ash trees in the area. The higher fence is allowed between commercial and residential zoning areas. Motion by Tom Schnettler, second by Mike Wandschneider to recommend Village Board approve a building permit to install wood privacy fence between residents on Briarwood Court and the Shops at Woodlake.
