Village of Kohler
Board of Zoning Appeals
November 30, 2023
Chairperson Lee Gumm called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. Roll call was taken:
Lee Gumm, Tom Hilke, Thomas Kramer, Dan Kolb and Randy Kraemer were present.
Staff members present: Mike Kitzerow and Laurie Lindow.
Business
1. Request for a variance from Kohler Co., 444 Highland Drive, for the installation of a
150th Anniversary Monument located in front of the Main Office that exceeds the
allowed height of 8’ to 9’9” - The proposed project was presented to the Plan
Commission on November 9 and was recommended to the Village Board to approve.
At the November 13 Village Board meeting, it was discovered that the height of the
monument exceeded the height allowed for a permanent sign. The Village Board
recommended the proposed monument be forwarded to the Board of Zoning Appeals to
request a variance. Randy Kraemer discussed the request for a variance meeting the
three criteria: (1) unique property limitations – property is zoned industrial, (2) no harm
to Public Interests – affects Kohler Co. land only not neighboring properties and (3)
unnecessary hardship – modification was necessary to existing monument. Motion by
Dan Kolb, second by Tom Hilke to approve the request for a variance for Kohler Co. for
the installation of a 150th Anniversary Monument in front of the Main Office. Motion
carried.
Adjournment
Motion by Randy Kraemer, second by Tom Hilke to adjourn the meeting at 4:12 p.m.
Motion carried.
