VOTED: To contribute $200,000.00 to 609 Main Street Colonial Theater Block Redevlopment initiative.
Contribution to help create a community space that can be utilized for library programs. Contribution to be made
contingent upon legal opinion, and to come pro rata from expendable accounts in LPL Trust Funds. Motion: Smith;
Second Perley. Unanimous
VOTED: To award to Laconia Historical & Museum Society $20,000.00 to partially cover costs associated with 2016
programming and exhibition series. Award contingent upon LPL Board approval of revised exhibit (four exhibits)
schedule. Funds to come from Laconia Public Library Trust Funds. Motion: Moriarty; Second: Smith. Unanimous
VOTED: Pursuant to a request from the Laconia City Manager, regarding the recent Elm Street property
settlement, Board voted to compensate the City in the amount of $63,500.00 with funds to come from LPL Trust
Funds. Motion: Perley, Second: Moriarty. Five in favor; one opposed.
VOTED: To expend $600.00 for advertising library programs in The Laconia Daily Sun. Ads to appear over the next
ninety days, and cost of ads to come from the program line in operating budget. Motion: Moriarty; Second: Perley.

VOTED: To fund tuition for library staff member Diane Lynch to take Archival Management course at Simmons
College. This is an online course, and includes an internship that will enable her to work on development of Lakes
Region History Online. Motion: Perley; Second: Smith. Unanimous
Laconia Public Library Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting in Volpe Room. Chairman Bob Selig
called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
Present: James Anderson; Kimberly Danosi; John Moriarty; John Perley; Liz Rosenfeld; Glenn Smith; Director Randy
Brough
Not Present: Craig Clark; City Council Liaison Brenda Baer
Mayor Ed Engler was present to speak about the 609 Main Street Colonial Theater Block Redevelopment Project,
and to request a donation from LPL in support of it. On a motion by Smith, seconded by Perley, the Board voted
unanimously to contribute $200,000.00 to the 609 Main Street initiative to help create a community space in the
Colonial Theater Block that can be utilized for library programs. The contribution is contingent upon legal opinion,
and is to come pro rata from expendable accounts in LPL Trust Funds. Chairman is tasked with soliciting needed
legal advice. In addition, the Board seeks: a.) a commitment from Laconia City Council that a library contribution to
609 will result in no adverse impact on library operating budget; b.) a commitment to library having priority use of
the finished auditorium space; and c.) a promise that should more than $2 million be raised for 609, then a portion
of the amount raised over $2 million be allocated to fund future library programming.
Pat Tierney and Pam Clark from Laconia Historical & Museum Society presented a proposal for 2016 programs and
exhibits. After some discussion, and contingent upon review and approval of a revised exhibit schedule, the Board
voted unanimously (Motion: Moriarty; Second: Smith) to award LHMS $20,000.00 to partially cover costs
associated with the series. Funds to come from LPL Trust Funds.
Updates:

Director will work with Jon Gardner to prepare RFP for upgrade and expansion of library camera system.
Director will check Board meeting minutes to determine if a specific financial commitment has been made to assist
with the relocation of the WWI Memorial across North Main Street.
STEM Committee met on December 17, 2015. Present were Trustees Danosi and Smith, Director Brough, and staff
members Diane Lynch and Loraine Murray. Metrocast internet service will be upgraded one level to meet current
needs and projected future ones. Goals of the committee include:
1. Create collection of science tools available for check out.
2. Enhance existing pre-teen program, pre-teen program to consist of monthly programs developed and
administered by LPL personnel.
3. Enhance existing teen program, to consist of monthly programs to be provided in cooperation with
community partner(s), as yet unidentified, possibly PSU.
4. Expand current program of special science presentations (Squam Lakes Center) to include presentations by
SEE, Montshire, Seacoast Science Center, others).
Next meeting of the committee is scheduled for Wednesday, February 24 at 9:00am in the Volpe Room.
Next regular Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 10 at 5:00pm in the Volpe Room
Meeting adjourned at 8:10pm.
