We had been expecting his call but Tom showed up and participated in a lively discussion. He
gave us several ideas. One idea Tom talked about was Jonathan Daniels, who was a civil rights
worker and a contemporary of Martin Luther King. He was shot while shielding the life of a
young black civil rights activist. He was born in Keene, NH. He was proclaimed a martyr by the
episcopal church in 1991. There is book about him on Amazon call “Blood Brother” by Sandra
Tom told us about a movie, “Here Am I, Send Me: The Story of Jonathan Daniels (2000)” is a 50
minute movie we might want to show and invite the writers Sandra Neil Wallace and Rich
Wallace, who might be available to lead a conversation.
Tom also mentioned there is an annual Kristallnacht Remembrance at Keene State this
November 7th. https://www.keene.edu/news/events/detail/11242/
We plan to continue the discussion of MLK day on November 6th in room 200B at 10am.
