December 13, 2021 - Meeting Minutes
I. CALL TO ORDER
David Stamps welcomed everyone to the meeting of the Laconia Human Relations Committee.
Committee member roll call was taken, a quorum was established, and the meeting was called to
order at 3:31pm.
II. ATTENDANCE
Present – Chair David Stamps, Carol Pierce, David Osman, Matt Soza, Kay Anderson, Pat Wood (Guest)
and Carrie Chandler
Present via Zoom or Phone – Mayor Andrew Hosmer, Margaret Donnelly, Rev. Judith Wright, Trish
Weatherbee, Seifu Ragassa
Excused – Kate Bruchacova
Leave of Absence – Janet Simmon
III. OLD BUSINESS
Minutes Approval – A motion was made by Matt Soza, seconded by David Osman, to accept the
minutes of the November 8, 2021 Laconia Human Relations Committee with one date correction
that occurred prior to posting. With no further discussion, the motion passed unanimously.
Financial Report – A motion was made by Carol Pierce, seconded by Andrew Hosmer, to accept the
year-to-date financials with a balance of $2,791.07. With no further discussion, the motion passed
unanimously. Early spring is a good time to re-evaluate needs; which may result in a request for
increased funding, and exploring other sources, to enhance programming.
Homeless Taskforce – Mayor Hosmer met with Chief Adams; the state has authorized the Dube
Building as a cold weather shelter for use during the hours of 8pm until 8am.
Subcommittee – Honoring Martin Luther King Jr
• The committee is not recommending an in person gathering at the Belknap Mill in January of
2022 due to new COVID outbreak.
• We will provide publicity in the newspaper regarding Dr. King – his life in relation to Laconia.
• We will reach out to inter-faith community about hosting an outside Vigil on January 16th.

o Dr. King’s “I have a dream” speech is read aloud
o The names of civil rights martyrs are read aloud
o Moment of Silence
o Benediction
▪ Candlelight depending upon time - to be determined
• Other ideas mentioned:
o Interview people attending the vigil – why it is important to honor and celebrate MLK’s
birthday – collate and send to the newspaper
o LHRC to meet for a time of self-reflection
o Committee members to write down one personal thought or line – “Martin Luther
King Jr stood for…”
o Interview a LHRC member for the newspaper
o Another year – host a vigil in each of the 6 city wards
• Subcommittee meets again on January 5th at 1:30p.
IV. PUBLIC COMMENTS
There was no one present for public comment.
V. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned by Chair David Stamps 4:38p. Next meeting is scheduled for Monday,
January 10, 2021, 3:30p, City Hall Room 200A and via zoom invite.

committee. Everyone is expected to speak respectfully.
