BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MINUTES September 11, 2012 Regular Session: The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Gary Henriott, Cindy Murray, Ron Shriner and Norm Childress. Absent: Tilara McDonald-Treece Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy City Attorney, was also present. President Henriott called the meeting to order. President Henriott asked for a moment of silence to honor the events that took place 11 years ago as we call 9-11. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country. MINUTES Mrs. Murray moved for approval of the minutes from the September 4, 2012 regular meeting. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. NEW BUSINESS Engineering Permission to Advertise-Utility Emergency Repairs Program 2012-2013 Jenny Miller, Public Works Director, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Permission to Advertise the Utility Emergency Repairs Program 2012-2013. The publication will run on September 13 & 20, 2012 with the bid opening on October 2, 2012. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. Supplemental Agreement #3-Old Romney Rd Reconstruction and Twyckenham Blvd Roundabouts and Trail Project Ms. Miller presented to the Board and recommended approval of Supplemental Agreement #3 for the Old Romney Rd Reconstruction and Twyckenham Blvd Roundabouts and Trail Project. The supplement is in the amount of $190,700.00 which includes all of the right-of-way services. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. Police Agreement for Towing and Related Services Don Roush, Police Chief, presented to the Board and recommended approval of an Agreement for Towing and Related Services with Jim‟s Garage, Inc. The Board questioned whether the contract for approval would need to add “J&T Recovery” to the name of the „vendor‟ to reflect the entire name of the towing company. Mr. Childress moved to table this item pending clarification of the „vendor‟ name. Mrs. Murray seconded. Jenkins. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. Community Development Demolition Permit- 10-12 North 8th Street Brian Bugajski, Community Development, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Demolition Permit for 10-12 North Street. Mr. Bugajski stated that the home is significant to the City‟s historic fabric and recommended not waiving the 60 day waiting period. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. Demolition Permit- 712-714 South Street Mr. Bugajski presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Demolition Permit for 712-714 South Street. Mr. Bugajski stated that the home is significant to the City‟s historic fabric and recommended not waiving the 60 day waiting period. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. CLAIMS Mike Jones, Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $2,090,874.00. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. Board of Public Works and Safety September 11, 2012 Page 4 MISCELLANEOUS Special Event Request-Wabash Heritage Trail Marathon President Henriott presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for the Wabash Heritage Trail marathon to be held on September 30, 2012 from 8:00am-4:00pm. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. Proclamation-National Preparedness Month The Mayor read the following Proclamation: National Preparedness Month Proclamation Whereas, no one can predict when or where the next crisis will arise; Whereas, Lafayette, Indiana is vulnerable to natural disasters or human-caused emergencies; Whereas, the American public remains largely unaware and unprepared for possible disasters and other life-threatening emergencies in their own community; Whereas, government agencies and disaster organizations cannot bear the sole responsibility to prepare for and respond to disasters; Whereas, the American Red Cross, an organization that prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies, encourages households to create a family disaster plan during National Preparedness Month to ensure everyone is ready for the next emergency or disaster; Whereas, National Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort held each September to raise awareness about the importance of planning for all types of disasters, and to encourage Americans to learn more about preparedness at home and in their community; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Tony Roswarski, do hereby proclaim September 2012 as National Preparedness Month.
