BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MINUTES February 23, 2016 Regular Session: The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Gary Henriott, Cindy Murray, Dawn Ross, Norm Childress and Ron Shriner. Ed Chosnek, City Attorney, was also present. President Henriott called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country by Daisy Scout Troop #51472. MINUTES Mrs. Ross moved for approval of the minutes from the February 16, 2016 regular meeting. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. BIDS UNDER ADVISEMENT Veterans Memorial Parkway & Fastline Drive Signalization President Henriott stated that this will remain under advisement. Purchasing Recommendation for Award- Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Bisulfite, Hydrochloric Acid, Ferric Chloride & Sodium Aluminate Rick Morrissey, Purchasing Manager, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Recommendation for Award- Sodium Hypochlorite, Sodium Bisulfite, Hydrochloric Acid, Ferric Chloride & Sodium Aluminate. Mr. Morrissey recommended award to JCI Jones Chemical for the Sodium Hypochlorite, award PVS Chemical Solutions for the Sodium Bisulfite; and award Brenntag Mid-South for the Hydrochloric Acid, Ferric Chloric and Sodium Aluminate. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. 2016 Landscape Maintenance Contract Renewal Claudine Laufman, Parks Superintendent, presented to the Board and recommended approval of the 2016 Landscape Maintenance Contract Renewal with Brickman Group. Mrs. Laufman stated that Brickman has done a fantastic job in years past and have agreed to honor their service fee from last year, for this year. The Parks Department has increased their scope of responsibility to 32 specialty areas. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. Board of Public Works and Safety February 23, 2016 Page 2 Engineering Permission to Advertise-Old Romney Road Street Tree Planting Leanne Wells, Urban Forester, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Permission to Advertise for the Old Romney Road Street Tree Planting for 50-68 trees. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. Lafayette Housing Authority Amendment #2-Agreement between the Lafayette Housing Consortium and Lafayette Transitional housing Center 2014-2015 Singles Program Rehab Valerie Oakley, Project Manager, presented to the Board and recommended approval of Amendment #2- Agreement between the Lafayette Housing Consortium and Lafayette Transitional housing Center 2014- 2015 Singles Program Rehab. Mrs. Oakley stated that the renovations were substantially complete and is projected to be 100% complete in March 2016. The amendment extends the agreement through April 30, 2016 to finish the final paperwork. Mrs. Ross moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. President Henriott abstained. CLAIMS Mike Jones, Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $3,814,058.18. President Henriott asked if there were any further questions and there were none. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. MISCELLANEOUS Proclamation-2016 Girl Scout Cookie Week The Mayor read the following proclamation: Whereas 2016 marks the 104th anniversary of Girl Scouts of the USA, founded by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia; and, Whereas throughout its distinguished history, Girl Scouting has inspired millions of girls and women with the highest ideals of courage, confidence, and character; and, Whereas girls discover, connect and take action to make their local communities and the world a better place; and, Whereas more than 2.9 million current Girl Scout members nationwide will be participating in the nation’s largest financial literacy program for girls. The Girl Scout Cookie Program offers 5 skills for girls: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics. Celebrating 80 years of this American tradition, with 59 million women who are former Girl Scouts and living proof of the impact of this amazing movement. THEREFORE Board of Public Works and Safety February 23, 2016 Page 3 I, Tony Roswarski, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Lafayette, do hereby applaud the commitment that Girl Scouting has made to America’s girls and proudly proclaim the week of February 22, 2016 Girl Scout Cookie Week. ANNOUNCEMENTS Mayor Roswarski announced that Amy Douglass from the Utility Billing Office has completed the Certified Public Supervisor Training at Ball State University. Mrs. Douglass thanked the Board for the opportunity to attend the training and recommended the training to others.
