BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MINUTES June 7, 2016 Regular Session: The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Gary Henriott, Cindy Murray, Dawn Ross, Ron Shriner and Norm Childress. Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy City Attorney, was also present. President Henriott called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country. MINUTES Mrs. Murray moved for approval of the minutes from the May 31, 2016 regular meeting. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. BIDS UNDER ADVISEMENT Columbia Parking Garage Renovations President Henriott stated that this item will remain under advisement. NEW BUSINESS Engineering Permission to Advertise-Structure Demolition 608 S. 4th Street Jenny Leshney, Public Works Director, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Permission to Advertise the Structure Demolition at 608 S. 4th Street. This structure was affirmed for demolition by the Lafayette Housing Authority. The bid opening is scheduled for June 28, 2016. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. Economic Development Change Order #1-Long Center Renovations Electrical Contract with Huston Electric Dennis Carson, Economic Development Director, presented to the Board and recommended approval of Change Order #1 for the Long Center Renovations Electrical Contract with Huston Electric. Mr. Carson stated that this change order reflects a change in conditions to address some telecommunications wiring. The change order is an increase in the amount of $33,845.00 which brings the revised contract to $167,534.00. Mrs. Ross moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. Board of Public Works and Safety June 7, 2016 Page 2 Water Pollution Control Contract Extension with Merrell Brothers Brad Talley, Water Pollution Control Superintendent, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Contract Extension with Merrell Brothers. Mr. Talley stated this is a 48 month extension for liquid land application for bio solids. This contract is a mutually agreed upon extension with the current hauling and application rate of $28.41 per 1000 gallons along with a fuel surcharge of $.005 per gallon. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. CLAIMS Mike Jones, Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $1,219,930.08. President Henriott asked if there were any further questions and there were none. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. MISCELLANEOUS Special Event Request-9th Street Hill Box Parade President Henriott presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for the 9th Street Hill Box Parade to be held on June 25, 2016 from 10:00am-12:00pm on 9th Street Hill. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. Special Event Request-5K Run/Walk Club NewTone Alex Lugar, Club NewTone Representative, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for the 5K Run/Walk for Club NewTone to be held on July 4, 2016 from 8:00am- 10:30am. Mrs. Murray moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. DEPARTMENTAL UPDATE Police Department Police Chief, Patrick Flannelly, stated that the full version of this update is available on the Lafayette Police Website. Chief Flannelly gave a short update on topics that include Community Outreach & Social Media, Crime Prevention Unit, D.A.R.E Program, Junior Police Academy, Citizen’s Academy, V.I.P.S. Program, Police Training Center, Victim Advocate Program, College Intern Program, Police Take-Home Car Program Expansion, Personnel Turnover/Recruitment, Calls for Service/Communications Center Statistics, Alarm Reduction Effort and how the police force is meeting today’s challenges. Discussion ensued.
