MINUTES
August 15, 2017
Regular Session:
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.
in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Norm Childress, Cindy Murray, Dawn Ross
and Ron Shriner. Absent: Gary Henriott
Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy City Attorney, was also present.
Mrs. Murray called the meeting to order.
The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country.
MINUTES
Mrs. Ross moved for approval of the minutes from the August 8, 2017 regular meeting. Mr. Childress
seconded. Passed.
BID OPENING
24th, 25th & Knight Street Curb, Sidewalk and Ramp Replacement Project (Re-Bid)
This being the time set to open bids for 24th, 25th, and Knight Street Curb, Sidewalk and Ramp
Replacement Project (Re-Bid), the following bids were received and opened:
Mid-States General
Lafayette, Indiana
Base Bid: $175,612.00
Heartland Excavating
Lafayette, Indiana
Base Bid: $95,782.63
Dixon Construction
Lafayette, Indiana
Base Bid: $116,366.00
Mr. Shriner moved to take the bids under advisement for further review. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed.

Historic Demolition Permit-1101 Brown Street
John Collier, Economic Development, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Historic
Demolition Permit for 1101 Brown Street out-building. Mr. Collier stated that this was reviewed by Dann
Keiser, Lafayette Historic Preservation Officer, and recommended upholding the 60-day waiting period.
Demolition of the building would adversely affect the historic character of the district. Mr. Childress
moved to uphold the 60-day waiting period. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed.
Historic Demolition Permit-710 Hitt Street (Garage Only)
Mr. Collier presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Historic Demolition Permit for 710
Hitt Street (Garage Only). Mr. Collier stated that this was reviewed by Mr. Keiser who recommended
waiving the 60-day waiting period due to the structural integrity of the garage is in its present state. Mr.
Childress moved to waive the 60-day waiting period. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed.
CLAIMS
Mike Jones, Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $3,707,345.90. Mrs.
Murray asked if there were any further questions and there were none. Mr. Shriner moved for approval.
Mr. Childress seconded. Passed.
MISCELLANEOUS
Special Event Request-Carry the Torch Walk
Mrs. Murray presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for the Carry
the Torch Walk to be held on September 24, 2017 from 11:00am-6:00pm at Riehle Plaza and the John T.
Myers Bridge. Mrs. Ross moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed.
Special Event Request-Boiler Bridgewalk
Mrs. Murray presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for the Boiler
Bridgewalk to be held on September 22, 2017 from 4:00pm-8:00pm on the John T. Myers Bridge. Mrs.
Ross moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed.
Special Event Request-Summer Art Market (LaLa Gallery)
Mrs. Murray presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Special Event Request for the
Summer Art Market for LaLa Gallery to be held on August 26, 2017 from 6:00am-4:00pm on 5th Street
between Main and Ferry Streets. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed.
