BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MINUTES September 26, 2017 Regular Session: The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Gary Henriott, Norm Childress, Cindy Murray and Ron Shriner. Absent: Dawn Ross Jacque Chosnek, 1st Deputy City Attorney, was also present. President Henriott called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country. MINUTES Mrs. Murray moved for approval of the minutes from the September 19, 2017 regular meeting. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. BIDS UNDER ADVISEMENT Structure Demolition-615 Wabash Avenue and 1327 Columbia Street President Henriott stated that this item will remain under advisement. NEW BUSINESS Economic Development Historic Demolition Permit-615 Wabash Avenue John Collier, Economic Development, presented to the Board and recommended approval of the Historic Demolition Permit for 615 Wabash Avenue. Mr. Collier stated that this structure has been deemed unsafe and structurally unsound by the Lafayette Hearing Authority, which has been ordered for demolition. Mr. Collier stated that the request has been reviewed by Dann Keiser, Lafayette Historic Preservation Officer and the loss would have a negative impact on the community. Mark Gick, Building Commissioner, stated that the structure had a fire. They tore out the floors and walls out and the structure is not structurally sound. Mr. Childress moved to waive the 60-day waiting period. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. Historic Demolition Permit-1327 Columbia Street Mr. Collier presented to the Board and recommended approval of the Historic Demolition Permit for 1327 Columbia Street. Mr. Collier stated that this structure has been deemed unsafe and structurally unsound by the Lafayette Hearing Authority, which has been ordered for demolition. Mr. Collier stated that the request has been reviewed by Dann Keiser, Lafayette Historic Preservation Officer and the loss would not have a negative impact on the community. Mr. Gick stated that the structure had a fire with some repairs being made since then, but the structure is not structurally sound. Mr. Shriner moved to waive the 60-day waiting period. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. Board of Public Works and Safety September 26, 2017 Page 2 CLAIMS Tim Clary, Deputy Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $954,618.13. President Henriott asked if there were any further questions and there were none. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Murray seconded. Passed. MISCELLANEOUS Fall Hydrant Flushing Schedule Kerry Smith, Water Works Superintendent, announced to the Board that fire hydrant flushing will begin on Sunday, October 1, 2017 between the hours of 10pm and 6am and end on October 13, 2017. Flushing will continue each night with the exception of Friday and Saturday evenings. Customers may experience some discolored water. If this occurs, let the cold water tap run for a few minutes and it should clear up. If a problem continues please call 765-807-1700. Fall Leaf Pick-up Schedule Dan Crowell, Street Commissioner, announced to the Board that Fall Leaf Pick-up will begin the week of October 15, 2017. Leaf collection will be on your trash day. Mr. Crowell reminded citizens to use the paper lawn/leaf bags. Plastic bags are not allowed and will not be picked up.
